Is Lord Sugar a racist?

This might be flying in the face of popular opinion on this notoriously open minded forum, but the tweet has overtly racist overtones. This doesn’t necessarily make him a racist, it just displays poor judgement on his behalf IMO.
Implying that all people of one colour/race etc is one of the laziest racist cliches out there.
Also I found it a little distasteful re implied message that all black Africans can do is sell tat on a beach in Spain. It’s not a conclusion I would feel comfortable with, joke or otherwise.
Probably the most important aspect is that it’s not actually funny.

:D I hear you, it is indeed a hotbed of inclusive liberalism I'm surprised anyone gets any golfing done in between singing kumbaya and knitting yoghurt.

In your view... but, the fact remains, you are taking offence at "your interpretation of what you think he meant."

How can you know that he was stating that he thinks that is the only jobs folk of that origin can do? Presumably you can demonstrate that he only employs white people in his businesses? Oh you cant, because it isn't true.

I’m not offended, I’m not the victim, but there is one.

I’m prepared to be educated. Explain why it’s funny?

My worry with this incident and others is that the self appointed representatives of the black community have taken it upon themselves to decide what racism is. The definition is:
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. I am not sure that the tweet does any of these things. On top of that they go on to ascribe motives to the tweeter that are simply guesswork or the motives that their victimhood wants to see - "Sugar thinks that all black people look alike" - really?
On the basis of one ill judged tweet, does that make Sugar a racist? If not, isn't it simply ridiculous to call for the BBC to sack him?

No there isn't a victim.

I never said it was funny.

Still waiting for you to prove he meant "Black Africans are only good for flogging tat on the beach."

Nigerian guy sat next to me is amused you are offended on his behalf. He is fed up with white folk patronising him like that!

‘Prove’ WTF??? It is an interpretation, you are correct. I’m not going down this road with you, ultimately it’s futile. It’s displays poor judgement for fella that has a seat in the House of Lords IMO

Unfortunately I think the psyche has changed these days so that the initial thought on many life events is that of being offended..... not necessarily for yourself but on behalf of others. There are far too many wall flowers these days, in my opinion people are too damn soft.

Says the fella that wouldn’t walk down an alley because of the scary teenagers ;)

The problem with this is that everyone will have there own view, some people will think it's funny, some will think it's horrendous.

This tweet doesn't bother me but in today's day and age you can not get away with writing/saying these sort of things as you will offend someone on purpose or by accident.

On to the main question , i do not think Mr Sugar is a racist but he has made a bad error of judgment in today's world by putting this out there.

Summed up better than I could. I don’t think a questionable sense of humour makes you a bad person, but just make sure than you tell those jokes around like minded people, not on Twitter.

There is a school of thought that humour knows no boundaries, you can laugh at anything. I’m not convinced

You're getting me confused with someone else....I DID walk past 3 BLOKES in an alleyway (because I'm ard innit)

**EDIT - just to add; I have continued to use said alleyway and didn't get tooled up

He probably is racist. That is a pretty racist thing to post.

I am sure there are a lot of people who are racist behind closed doors

Maybe it is a human nature to instictively prefer people that are the same race as them

maybe also black people can be as racist towards white people, as white to black people but that is not news worthy

Think your last sentence sums it up (although its a fair assessment in full) and a bad error of judgement. Given his background I would doubt/think he's racist but you can never really tell what a person is thinking especially when the post via social media
