Is Lord Sugar a racist?

Idiocy born out of arrogance IMO.

He is a bit of a Donald Trump with his frequently (often silly) comments and spats on social media. He will have known that anything he puts into this sort of domain is going to get picked over by the PC police.

It is racist but I doubt he intended it to be insulting and there's the stupidity/arrogance. Why people get themselves into this sort of juvenile bind is beyond me.

Is Lord Sugar a Rascist, nope he's a plank.
Did I find it funny, nope I found it dead funny.
But here's where I have a massive problem. The latest winner of BGT ( lost voice man )who was OK if you like that sort of thing, spent all of his time poking fun at his disability. Now if he can do it and it is acceptable. Why can't others do it. I actually think it is poor comedy when you have a laugh at other peoples disabilities. Have we now got to a situation where only white people can tell jokes about whites? Blacks with Blacks? Disabled people about disabled people. Etc etc.

Imo unless a joke is made at you exclusively. I fail to see how you can be offended.
you can think it’s in poor taste of course.

i will openly admit that I laughed when I saw it first (prior to Sugar sharing it). There are lots of African men that flog things like that all other Europe. It was merely observational humour.

How many of us have called a call centre and hoped it was uk based? I have.
Lots of nations have stereotypes. Joking about them isn’t racist.

I’m not offended, I’m not the victim, but there is one.

I’m prepared to be educated. Explain why it’s funny?
Dorset people have a strange sense of humor. (No offense meant to green Dorset people though)

Surely it’s knowing your audience, if Sugar was a comedian and you’d gone to see his show, you may it expect it from him, but to put it on the internet and he has a history of, possibly, racist comments and now he’s deleted it, he’s brought it on himself.

Trouble is though paul, what is your audience, at the moment it is world wide. Even things said in private are leaked. The comment " it was said in private" just don't stand up. Not to sure where the " crossed the line" line is anymore.

Alternatively we could all just try and not be racist.

FD had summed it up, also Sugar posted the tweet it wasn’t said in private, were’s the line? It’s wavey and it’s blurry, but it’s still the responsibility of the speaker. Impact not intent.

Trouble is you're then infringing on "peoples" right to use free speech and telling people how they should think. Just because you dont agree with something, doesn't mean their view is any less valid.

Free speech does not mean you can say whatever you want. That's a commonly held mistake.

Close, it doesn't mean that you can say whatever you want without consequence. Lord Sugar was free to post his joke and other people were free to call him out on it. Golfers everywhere were then free to endlessly discuss whether PC has indeed gone mad or if maybe we should all just try being a bit nicer to each other.

Free speech brings responsibilities. Absolute free speech would allow people to support IS, Nazi's etc. We don't allow that, judgements are taken.

Sugar's tweet was an old man / woman tweet. Something that was acceptable in the 70's and 80's but not now. I saw it and cringed. It is something my FiL would come out with, he is 81. Both would see nothing wrong in the tweet, if I showed my kids they would be horrified. Times have moved on.

Ultimately I don't believe he is racist, just old and a bit stupid in terms of where the world is now.

Do I think he is racist - I don't know, he could be, but I have no knowledge of his views beyond that tweet - does he go to Nazi rallies with Trump supporters & Farage?

Do I think the tweet was racist - not really, it was just a crap attempt at humour from an apparently humourless fool

Do I think it was funny - not for me, but if someone else does, then yes it was funny to them

Do I wish him to be sacked for this tweet - no, but I don't mind if he's sacked for making crap TV shows like the Apprentice

1) You think Farage is a Nazi

2) You ask if a Jewish Guy attends Nazi Rallies.

The point is, I don't know how he thinks, so I can't say if he personally is racist.

To judge a person's character based on one mistake is impossible - you can judge him more by his initial refusal to accept fault than you can the tweet itself.
