Or is anyone else as disturbed and angry about this as me?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-40721755

So, this guy was a known nut job since 1961, where he raped and killed a seven year old girl.
The article has been edited, but it originally quoted a Psychiatrist who said that has was beyond any treatment and that he would always be likely to re-offend given the slightest opportunity.

Why on earth was he released after six years, only for him to go on and rape and/or murder at least 20 more victims?

This makes my piss boil!
What on earth has to happen before monsters like these are locked up permanently?

If he'd been hanged, those innocent people would not have suffered.

Yeah but it's not a deterrent is it. I Mean the fact he has killed God knows how many, 20 plus, yet we are better than that to of not let him feel a k ot around his neck. Cases like this will always convince me that the death penalty should return.

Careful fellas. Advocating the death penalty will upset the "civilised " amongst us and you will be told to behave.
And then they wonder why this Country is now a mess

Whilst I'm 50/50 regarding the death penalty, it being a deterrent is neither here nor there as far as I'm concerned.
There's just nothing to be done with these people. Oh yes some quack will study them, publish a book and make their name and fortunes out of it, but we can't cure these people nor can we prevent them.
So once we recognise them for what they are, then I think there could be a case for offing them as opposed to locking them up forever.
Either way they should never be allowed near the public again!

Whether the death penalty is or is not a deterrent is irrelevant.
The one fact that is relevant is that anyone who is executed never re-offends therefor protecting the public.
And as for executing the innocent........
How do we know they were innocent......by modern investigative techniques.
DNA testing can not only prove innocence but can also prove guilt, linked with CCTV and the police wearing body cams.
We have come a long way in the last 60 years.
Evil people haven't.
Sinclair raped and murdered a 7 year old girl.
Anyone who thinks he deserves leniency (6 years served in prison) is wrong in my opinion.

The taking of his life would have prevented the suffering of all his future victims and their families.

Innocent people are still convicted even with modern techniques - if it’s wrong for someone to murder someone then why should it be right for the law to decide to remove someone’s life. Countries are actually moving away from capital punishment not introducing it

On this case he shouldn’t have been released in the first place

Someone’s life can’t be removed as a punishment- that’s just not modern society

Many modern societies still use capital punishment. I’m not saying I agree with it for everything, but it’s certainly not easily dismissed.

For me, with today’s modern science anyone convicted of multiple atrocities (murder, rape) should get out down. Be that for morale or financial reasons, they aren’t worth the money it costs to keep alive.

The death penalty isn’t enough.
Torture, removal of limbs or genitalia, water boarding, flogging and a good bit of slavery is what’s needed ideally.
Like Auschwitz but worse.

By committing certain offences you most certainly lose your right to live in my book.
I’m yet to actually meet anyone pro capital punishment who supports it cause it would be a deterrent. It’s funny, cause that’s always one of the first arguments that is brought up by “the other side”.

What happens when someone who is innocent is given the death penalty? How do you give that life back ?

And if someone rapes and kills a 7 year old then to prison for a very long time they go - this didn’t happen because we removed the death penalty, this happened because he was wrongly released

The country will never bring back the death penalty- it has no place in the UK , innocent people have been hanged and it’s proven to not act as a deterrent.

I guess you mean “put down” ?! Seriously?

And as for money - who are we to decide what someone’s life is worth .

I believe the first ever DNA test actually proved the person was innocent. 👍

A multiple murderer or rapist has no value or worth.

As to my wording. Yes that is exactly what I meant, scum like that aren’t the ones who’s guilt is suddenly disproved. I’m not suggestion every murder case should lead to death, but anyone repeatedly doing so can be hung, injected, shot, thrown off a roof for all I care.

I don’t think for a second it’ll stop others doing so, but I bet it would make some of the victims families feel better, and I doubt any would feel worse.

Sorry but your first statement is very wrong - all life has worth and value

Capital Punishment is barbaric , hence the view from the UN is to move towards eventual abolition

How can we as a society tell our children to not inflict pain and suffering on others only for society to do it anyway by removing someone’s life

My first statement was my opinion. As such, you can’t tell me it’s wrong. You can disagree with it, and that’s fine. Anything else you say after will not change it though.

Also, since when do I or anyone else have to accept that what the UN decides is right?

As to our children, we should teach them what we feel is right and wrong. Senseless murder of an innocent (wrong), removing a murdering from society with finality (not wrong imo). Not that I would tell my children that murderers should be killed, I’d allow them to make their own opinion on such matters.
