Is anyone working on something other than their full swing?

I thought this reading JOs post. At the moment I'm working on my putting stroke to try and consistently hit the sweetspot. Next lesson to be booked in is on bunker play. And I'm trying really hard to aply better thinking on course: staying relaxed, letting go of the bad ones and better course management.

Anyone else looking at anything outside the full swing?

Being tidier and not getting myself into trouble attempting shots i'm not good enough to make.

Rather than trying to land a hybrid onto a green from 190-220 yards away, i'll take a shorter iron and try and get myself within 40 yards of the green, leaving myself hopefuly a short pitch and a putt, or two putt at worse. Makes the card look a lot tidier and will help the scores tumble...

In theory anyway. Often though, by taking the pressure off the shot, i'll over relax and pull it into the clag anyway.

should really join you on the bunker play lesson, after my 12 on the 12th at woodhall yesterday

I cannot pitch the golf ball, I promise you that is no exaggeration - can't do it. To the point that it is totally embarrassing.

Hit the pitching area on the practice ground and, whilst it isn't without some rubbish, I can hit a lot of good shots. Got to find some way of taking it to the course :(

Missed the county champs cut by 2 Saturday. Added up that 5 shots were wasted by either a duffed or bladed pitch!!

So working, if I get the time to, on pitching.

Robobum, I am in the same boat.

Our course is playing so long with soft lush fairways that it is hard to reach some of the longer par 4's in 2 which is putting pressure on my shaky pitching and chipping, especially from 50 yards and in.

I have a lesson booked for next week to look at this.

Pitching is indeed my weak point at the mo. I am not going to be in a position to achive sub 70 with my pitching as it is.
2 shots at the weekend as examples:
1) 117 yds slightly down wind. I should be able to hit a very smooth PW 115. So I tried to take a little off and still busted it about 125 on the fly.
2) 102 yds slightly down wind. Once again. GW smooth goes 102. Came up 10 yards short.

Both were right at the pin but no where near! Dosnt give my putting a chance! :sbox:

I am happy with my chipping, putting, and bunker play, but my pitching needs work.A lesson next week is more than likely!

I had a bunker lesson last week, and it's a revelation! Sand? What sand? I don't care how high the lip is either, it's coming it and it's going close first time of asking!

Although they are for the shorter shot, all you need to do is swing back a bit further for the longer shots

Excellent. A bunker lesson has to be one of the easiest and cheapest ways to save shots for a lot of players.

Constantly working on my short game when I can. Was hoping for a good opportunity to do so yesterday afternoon, as I tee'd off around 3:15 and there was no one behind me or ahead of me. "Lovely", I thought, I can spend ten extra minutes around each green, practicing some chips and putts....Then some bloke appeared out of nowhere, which meant I had to resort to playing one ball (and occasionally taking two approach shots as he was playing two balls behind me)....So my hopes were dashed.

Nevertheless, I still played some alright golf. Had some absolute howlers as well, but I'm putting that down to my sore back :D

Currently working on the chipping. Decided that the linear method is the way forward for me and devoting my time into making it something I can rely on under pressure. Getting there in baby steps but getting there nonetheless

I'm still waiting for the cheque :(
Good news though. It wont be long before they are long forgotten :)
Ive actually hit quite a few flagsticks recently too, confidence is slowly creeping up on em! Ill give you your cheque if you can get your 'arris over to Ballyliffin this weekend. ;) We could do with a few folks on Saturday.

Chipping/pitching for me too. Had 9 up and downs 2 weeks ago and it disappeared almost overnight. The course has really dried out over the last few weeks so lots of bare lies and lightening quick greens to negotiate.

i hardly ever work on my full swing, it's 100 yards in that makes the difference to me. Practicing at every opportunity

Martin, if I'm not mistaken, you've been working with the "linear method" for quite some time, if memory serves, but every post you make about chipping is basically "woe is me, the end is nigh, I can't chip to save my life and have no confidence"....Might be time to try the conventional way perhaps?
