Iron lofts

I would have to get it measured, as thete is no way of knowing. My clubs are more traditional than not though. I am guessing 21 degree 3 iron. Etc.

Irons are guaged by weight. A 6 iron weighs the same. Loft is irrelevant, as is launch, etc.

I do not want longer hitting irons. For me, 180 is a six, at this time of year. I have no desire to buy a 6 iron that goes any longer.

It's pretty easy to get the information.
My mates Cleveland irons (no sure which model) all have the loft stamped on the head.

That'll be the CG16 model, it's what I've got. From memory the 6 iron is 27 degrees and the 7 iron 31.
With the pitching wedge at 44 degrees, I had to buy a Cleveland gap wedge at 48 degrees to bridge the gapping with my existing 52 degrees and SW

30* mine. Is it any wonder a 4 iron is becoming another dying iron from sets if some lofts of 6i are at 25-27*?
Ive gone completely opposite, Ive ditched my 58* and 3 hybrid and put a 2&3 iron in the bag. There's nothing better then a sweetly struck long iron in my view and I'm noticing a difference already, I've got more options off the tee and I'm hitting the 2/3irons from 220-250.

In case anyone wanted to know how we all compare:

My 6I loft over my last three sets has gone 28 (Callaway) > 32 (Benross) > 30 (current Titleist AP2s). I hit the ball better nowadays and therefore further but not sure if there would be much difference in distance between clubs, would be interesting to get the older 6Is out of the shed and compare all 3 side by side.

Oversize heads, perimeter weighting and a low centre of gravity will help a bit if you hit the ball off-centre or a bit thin. The flex characteristics of the shaft have more effect on launch angles than the above factors. Low kick point shafts will launch the ball higher than mid or high kick point shafts. Although I was younger at the time, I could it my traditional loft 3-iron (about 24 degree I think) quite well thank you!

You hit the nail on the head. As we get older we lose clubhead speed & with it the ability to hit low lofted irons. You struggle now, not because manufacturers are cranking lofts, but because you can't swing the club as hard. You need to drop the low irons & use hybrids instead.

Already have! 😀
