Hi everyone, looking for some advice/real world users. I’m currently looking for new irons. My current set are about 12 years old and are a custom non branded set made by my local pro with dynamic gold stiff shafts. Main issue I have is they fly too high so in wind especially, I lose a lot of distance. Plus side is they pretty much stop where they land.

I’ve had a couple of fittings, first was again by local pro who put me in some AI smokes with extra stuff shaft but unfortunately, Callaway no longer offer X shafts and he reckons with my swing speed, stiff will still fly to high.

Second fitting was through AG and had me in a Cobra King Tec in stiff but heavier shaft. Problem is, despite me telling them, over £1k for irons just isn’t happening just now.

Both clubs felt great and gave me a massive improvement in distance, though I have to say I’m not exactly lacking in distance with my own irons.

So I’ve been looking at a couple of options and have come up with the 2022 Cobra Forged Tec or Takomo 101t’s/201’s, both in a stiff shaft.

Looked at plenty of reviews online, just wondered if anyone here had some real world experience with the above options?

For info, I’m 44, play off 13 but that’s more because my putting was terrible last year. Couldn’t tell you swing speed for irons but my driver swing speed is between 112 and 115mph.

Sorry for the long post.

The ball flying too high (and hcp 13) may be a technique issue: adding loft in the delivery. You might experiment with ball position or adding some forward press when you initiate the backswing. If you know that you need x-stiff shafts you could always have a look at Golfclubs4cash or Golfbidder (and the like).

At one time I tried virtually every shaft on the market with the same iron head* doing side by side comparison to get the flight down without any success.

I agree with Klimski - work on your technique.

* I had 3 iron heads all the same

Hi guys, cheers for the replies and feedback. I’ve thought a few times about it being technique and delivery, (this has been my natural shot from a kid) but it’s never been picked up in lessons or fittings. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not high and floaty, it’s just to high for my liking especially since I play east/north east of Scotland where the wind blows a lot. Handicap, well that’s down to my putting especially over past couple of years. It was horrendous however I’ve worked hard on that and my round the green chipping over the winter and I hope I’ve found a way to get it in the hole. Last couple of months I’ve been shooting around 2 over (scratch) on our 9 hole course with one round One under (scratch) so it’s on the right trend.

I have another fitting on Monday with a new to me shop but I’m not going to say anything about previous suggestions and see where it comes out.

As for golfbidder etc, they don’t give you lie angle or similar so its a bit of a punt in that respect though I wouldn’t rule it out.
