Just been announced that all four competition days have now sold out. Great to see fantastic support for a European Tour event. Same as Royal Portrush in 2012. Pity it looks like it will be similar weather conditions.

I'm looking forward to heading down there on Friday.

Just seen the guys that paid £/€100,000.00 for the privilege to play with Rory in the pro-an were late for their tee time ,

Id be there an hour beforehand if it was me ha ha

Americans apparently. Must have been something to do with the time difference. I'm sure Rory sympathises!

I think the weather might help. Be great to see pros actually grinding a score out, especially over the weekend when they are in contention

Says the man who thought it was cold up round Southport on a lovely mild spring evening.

The rain and wind detracts from it for the players and spectators. No doubt about it. I stood in the pishing rain for four days at portrush. As much as I enjoyed it, the weather was a downer.

The rain softens the course and has pros spinning back wedges all round pins which just isn't links golf for me.

Perishing when we arrived on the Wednesday and cold in that wind off the sea. Very pleasant on Thursday and beautifully warm. I take your point about spinning the ball not being links golf but there will be some pros that will relish the challenge, especially if the wind blows too, and others who will wilt

Having been there today I can tell you that Sergio Garcia certainly won't relish it. Refused to sign autographs because his hands were cold when crossing from 3rd to 4tH. Was only the start of his round.

The crowds were also thinned massively by the weather.

There is only one winner if the weather stays like this and that is umbrella and heat pack vendors. A little wind will help protect the course but add in rain and you've got miserable fans and a miserable field.

Some crowds there for early Thursday , putting some of the "holiday" destination events in Spain & Portugal etc to shame , goes to show what can be done for HOME events if the pro's gat their act together

just watching this and the American commentator called the place "Royal Portrush", not once but twice!!!

how difficult is it to get the name of the course you are at right..?

Do you think they are a touch "over pampered" with these mittens they're wearing? Blimey, I'm out in the deepest winters playing on frozen greens with nothing but pockets to keep my hands warm... and it's not exactly frozen out there today!?
