My Sky subscription is now getting very expensive, in my eyes, and someone suggested IPTV.
They say it's about £60 per year ...................... that sounds very cheap.

If anyone is using it, what are the pros and cons, please.

You will need good broadband to ensure a good stream

There are many legal IPTV providers - Sky go , Now TV etc but £60 a year means it’s not one of them

But as normal if you watch anything that’s broadcast on subscription services in the UK it’s illegal and ISPs are looking at ways to block lots of streams

If you want to watch Sky services etc then you need to go via one of the authorised providers

I have heard there is whole group at our club that have got into unlicensed internet viewing ( modified Firesticks) and I have not heard anybody complain about the quality.

What do you want to watch.
If it's movies and TV series then there other options, if you want live TV/ sport then IPTV is the way to go.

Ask that same group of people what the punishment for shoplifting should be, or for someone who steals their golf clubs?

IPTV via a Firstick is a great way to invest in organised crime if you are in to tha sort of thing.

There are about 10m folk using IPTV illegally in the UK. The chances of end users being taken to court are negligible. The suppliers face a much higher risk, but even then, only a handful have been prosecuted.
Yeah it seems they go after the guys that supply it rather than the user.

They went after one guy for watching but he was also supplying so was a way to increase his jail time

The fact he ignored his Isp cease order went against him

I had a letter once when I downloaded a programme but wasn't the download. I had left my laptop downloading overnight and it had started uploading it afters aswell so got told to stop uploading

Companies do bring this on themselves tho , if the legal option is cheap and simple then people don't turn to other sources . Look at the greed of Disney, netflix and such .. all clamping down on passwords sharing because they don't make enough apparently .

We used to split the costs. My dad would pay for Netflix providing it for me and my sister. I used to pay for Disney providing it for them .

Now to get the content you want you can need

Netflix
Disney
Prime
Paramount plus
Apple TV

Nobody is happy just selling their product for a small profit they all want their own platform to milk the customer dry

The anti monopoly law was supposed to protect customers from firms having a monopoly and milking them dry. Instead they have made it so you pay more anyways

In our house you need to add Sky with all the trimming as well as TNT and Premier Sport to that list.

Ofc that's on top of all those listed. Another con, if it was all available in one place at a reasonable cost. (Even say £100 all singing all dancing) I doubt many would risk the illegal options

But the fact that you need pushing £200 a month for that is boarding insane

I don't mind paying for the sport as it is something I watch a lot!

I used to have virgin media (until it stopped working due to a cable fault) anyways it was £100 a month, but for that I got all the TV including BT sport (at the time) and all the sky movies and sport

Included in that was a second box for upstairs, and 300mb internet

That to me was a reasonable cost

When I had to leave them because of the issues sky wanted over £100 not including BT sport either which was just ridiculous

Moved to BT then which was £50 a month with their Freeview TV (including BT sport)

Now I just have community fibre (1 GB £30 a month) but I have netflix, prime and Disney (did have paramount plus on an offer but that's been cancelled)

Everything costs more that’s just life as whole these days

There are deals to be had

But if you don’t think it’s value for money then don’t buy it

It’s not a “must have”

It's the pricing models that are ridiculous

If sky packaged say sky golf for £5 a month I bet they would sell a fair few rather than £18 and then £27 for all sports (last time I checked)

It's just greed. If they price it more reasonably they sell more and then make more money

These offers they give to people that haggle are just ridiculous. Proves they don't need to sell that much they just do to maximise profits

They wouldn’t

They have to package the sports up because the money coming in if people wanted to just pick specific sports wouldn’t be anywhere near what’s needed

If you want to point fingers then start at the sports themselves - start with the Premier League and how much their rights go for
