Since the latest update my phone struggles to send and recieve texts, anyone else had an issue and found a solution.

I'm busy charging up an older windows phone as back up !!

I have, but the phone syncs to the car and 'speaks ' the messages as they arrive which is useful.

Yep, I beginning to think that way, my old windows phone has no problems with the same sim in it.

Thinking cheap and cheerful android may be on the list ....

Take it to your nearest Apple Store and ask them to help, they're usually pretty good.
I have a work Apple and a personal Android phone and would take the Android one every time.
If you're looking for a cheap good Android then you can't go wrong with the latest version of the Moto G family.
Saying that I got my father in law a Windows phone and it's still going strong. I quite like the interface on it and I think if they could have got the same support on Apps as Apple and Android, it would have done very well.

Yes, the lack of apps and a better browser was why I ditched the windows phone.

Will have a look at what's out there with android but was thinking asus zenphone or xperia, maybe.

I'm the other way around, in that I have a Work Android (Samsung Galaxy A3) and a personal Apple and I would take the Apple every time, I hate the Samsung, bleedin awful piece of crap.

That's why I like the Motorola. Pretty much pure Android with no bloatware on it and at about £150 beats everything on bang for the buck.
I just find the iPhone too restrictive and prefer the interface of the Android. Horses for courses and all that I guess.

I've recently retired my work iPhone 4s - been replaced with an LG K8 2017 (Android). Quite a bit different to my old iPhone but it's fine...and for just over £100?
