Think they are all much of a muchness. Remember the iphone has a compass on as standard and as such, cannot be used in comp's. The android use to be allowed. But it also may now be banned but not sure on that.

Not much in it tbh, iPhone definitely can't be used in comps, some android phones cant be used either, but if you want a good android phone it will probably have a compass so I would get an iPhone as you'll enjoy it more as a day to day phone

I know you have mentioned about the apps, how ever I would point out that an old iphone will obviously work well to use as an ipod after you upgrade again. It is handy if you like your music in your car or constantly on a dock as well.
