Plenty of free proxies out there or VPN services, you'll have to pay if you want anything reliable though.

Or you could set up a VPN yourself from France back to your house......

That sounds interesting, do i need a server at the UK end? am a bit of a VPN idiot... will look for an idiots guide online!!

you will be creating a vpn server in the UK, there are several ways of doing it from running an open source vpn server on your PC to buying a dedicated vpn router, you could retask an old PC to do the job. There would be a bit of work to set it up, but if you like this sort of thing then it would be interesting.

what would you say is the most reliable and cheapest way of doing it? basically, my dad wants to watch bbc iplayer, BT Sport etc while in France! nowt dodgy or high security requirement.. I have a really rubbish netbook kicking about, could i set that up as a server? its running windows 7 lite (or basic) version...

Have a look here http://www.pcworld.com/article/2030763/how-and-why-to-set-up-a-vpn-today.html

some nice ideas and info.

The one ide do myself is setup a hardware VPN router.

I believe HideMyIP (not a freebie) has an option to specify which country to use for your resultant IP.

There are probably a few freebie ones where a similar facility exists - Google is your friend!

I've seen this work just by changing your DNS servers to use UK based ones

Thats useful for tricking your PS3 or whatever to go to nexflix US but not for Iplayer from outside the UK
