Now then, now then,

None of your spotty modern simplistic stuff, please.

It's time to introduce some of our younger members to some proper, intellegent humour from the good old days, when satire and political humour came to the fore.

Between Charlie Chaplin, and Terry & June, for a brief spell, we had the wit and subtly of...

Monty Python.

These guys had univeristy degrees, and believed that a well thought out phrase, and a clever riposte was the foundation of comedic genius.

I than' yoo. :D

Loved them. Ministry of silly walks, dead parrot, bicycle repair man, argument dept, etc etc, fantastic sketches which were brilliantly written and acted. Only bit i was not so keen on were the animated sketches.

I always felt that Monty Python was a few sketches of absolute genius hidden in amongst some absolute bilge. The films are superb and if you put together their greatest sketches then it would be up there with the best but alot of the stuff in the TV series was just awful. Alot of people seem to remember the best but forget how mediocre the rest of it was

I think Monty python has to be taken in context with what else was on tv at the time and how alternative humour has progressed since I think they were so funny

My favorite comic at the moment is stewart lee he is very clever

exactly with you on this GB. 1 or 2 good sketches in each half hour show, the rest forgettable.

Loved 'em both, grew up with Monty Python, Life of Brian was sublime and the best antidote to religion ever made.

"Romani ite ad domum"

I found them a bit self destructive, they never knew how to finish a sketch so they usually descended into unfunny chaos.Promising starts but poor endings ruined it for me.
