I'm not a fan of Twenty/20. I'm a cricket purist - the five day format for me. That's proper cricket in my opinion. Twenty/20 is broken fingers stuff.

It brings the money in though so no-one in the game is going to turn it down.

Totally agree about "proper" cricket but, if you have only got 2 or 3 hours to spare instead of 5 days, it certainly makes good viewing.

It's quite possible that the 20/20 game might actually result in more agressive batting and better fielding in the longer version, and that can only be good for the overall game.

I am also a lover of the 5 day game but can see the benefit of 20/20. My wife has actually shown an interest in watching it and even going to a game and she normally hates cricket. If 20/20 gets more people watching the game and brings it to people who would not normally show an interest then I am all for it. A small percentage of those may even go on to watch the 5 day game and that would be even better.

My only concern is that we may get too much 20/20 every year with new tournaments and internationals as clubs and giverning bodies look for increased revenues and people get bored of it.

I can see the benefits of 20/20 - financial and time but to me it's just a slogfest. Top edges, inside edges - that's not cricket. Arguably, anyone could go into bat and simply flash the blade and, on their day, get a decent score. Also, the bowlers have little chance of getting decent figures as the batsmen are in full attack from the off.

Test match cricket will always be number one for me. The batsman crafting and battling to post a decent score. The bowlers having to think the batsmen out which often brings the Captain into play. He needs to be thinking all the time - field positions, bowling changes, etc.

20/20 is the new boy in town and is making all the headlines but the test arena is where every cricketer aspires to be and where true heros reside.

Have to agree, test match cricket will be for the hard core fans but 20/20 will hopefully bring a new generation of fans to the game.
