Had a lesson last night.

I wanted to have a quick look over my swing as it hasn't felt good for a few weeks, not turning through among main issues. After that I wanted to work on a few half shots with my wedges.

The Pro asked me how I'd been playing and was pleasd when I told him I was generally getting out the bunkers first go and that the shank problem had pretty much gone.

Took a few balls to loosen up, and shanked the first one!

After an assortment of poor shots the Pro got me taking the club away on a better line and getting everything squarer and I started to hit the ball really well. Was getting ready to move on to half shots when I started shanking again. This gradually got worse and worse as the lesson progressed until the only shots I could hit were thins, shanks and thinned shanks, and I mean the only shots. :(

Tried to keep the basics correct but my head had gone. the Pro said lets just finish on a couple of good ones, but they never came, in the end I managed to hit a pull that went in the air and we finished on that, really depressing.

I was going to go to the range this evening to try and get somehting back in readiness for tmorrow's board comp but then this morning my wife hands me an anniversary card!

You know that sinking feeling when you've forgotten something? She seemed to take it okay but I think I've got to take her out for a meal tonight at least so bang goes the range work.

Feel your pain crow , in a dodgy place myself , not enjoying my golf at the min , hit the ball realy well last sun could not buy a putt . all good enough putts , lipped out or just broke at the hole , hit it firm, got 2 horseshoes , shot 84 of good drives & irons .. was disappointed so played in the tuesday comp , mirror image round , shot 84 again .. just playing better than in scoring is so frustrating .. mayb i just need to accept im not at the level i think i am or should be .. as i say no enjoyment in it at the min...

Happy Anniversary by the way

Crow.....................

Go to the range......But first do this....Get yourself about 12" of a 4 in by 2 in block of timber...
When you get to the range if you have alignment aids put them down and square everything up......

Get your block and place it just outside the head of the club at address maybe 2 inch's or so away from it.....
If you naturally come at the ball from the inside then you'll need to face the block in such a way that the club path will just skim along inside the block...

If you are conscious enough of shanking trust me that block will stop that happening because the thoughts of walloping a club off it diminish any thoughts of hitting a socket....

Im not sure how the shanks are happening with you but for me i was taking the club back a little too inside the line and i was attacking the ball too far from the inside.....

Hope this helps. It worked wonders for me and even when you think they are gone what i now do in practice is to stick the head cover of my driver down just as a visual deterrent.....

Don't worry, I have had 3 lessons so far this year and hardly hit a good shot in any of them. Its not how you hit it in a lesson, its how you practice what the pro says!

For someone who $h@nked my way through a lesson my pro was surprised to hear I then went out and shot 84 not long after, followed that up with an 85 the next weekend!

Thanks for the comments.

I think my head just went last night, I feel more confident today, without hitting a shot mind, so am just going to think positive today and hope it all clicks tomorrow!

The wife is happy too as her ancient Matiz failed it's MOT the other week and we've just been out and bought a nice used Micra, she's down to just twice an hour mentioning forgotten anniversaries. :o

Currently in the same place, cannot hit a ball and my scores are getting higher and higher. Played on Wednesday night after a lesson and on three holes not once played on my own fairway. I haven't managed to get to the range yet as I've been too busy or every bay is full with a queue on each bay. Hopefuly I'll be able to get on te range on monday but in the meantime I've been practicing in the garden with those airballs but it isn't going well.
