On old tools. My dad was an 'old-school' cabinetmaker and I have all his tools. And I doubt I'll ever get rid of them as they were very important to him - and I still use some of them.

In fact only yesterday I need to drill a hole in a gate post, and the best tool that I had for the job given where the post was, was my dad's brace as he had a set of large diameter bits one of which was perfect. Bit and brace did just the job - the hole was drilled in no time at all.

My grandfather was also an old school cabinet maker. I've got a big box of his tools, many of which I've no idea what they are for

Look after them, many of those old tools are works of art in themselves and are becoming harder and harder to find as people clear out (dump) old belongings.

They are indeed. Also I've got the cabinetmakers toolbox my dad made for the end of his apprenticeship (about 1947 I'm guessing) - as I think all apprentice cabinetmakers did back in the day. I know what most of the tools are for - though some only as I have his cabinetmaker books and they tell me...

My mum got rid of my dad's set of moulding planes before I could stop her - but she kept all the rest of his tools and I got them as my brother prefers his power multi-tools.
