Visited Braehead yesterday for the first time in ages.
Goodness me, I thought I was walking through a furniture museum.
Much of the stuff we bought from Habitat, Co-op, Transatlantic Plastic etc in the early 1970's seems to have been copied for the 2020's

I know in clothes fashion folk say what goes round comes round but this is the first time I have noticed it in furniture.
Ended up spending £1.25 on some cooking tongs.

We have some Ikea furniture at home, because it's cheap and performs a function. You're lucky if it lasts a year before starting to disintegrate though. Particularly the drawer mechanisms.

I'll defend Ikea. It performs a role, does decent stuff, provides me with free pencils for golf and the cafe is cheap and cheerful. If you want high end furniture then go elsewhere but if your Ikea furniture is collapsing then you need to look at how you are assembling it. We have had plenty in my kids rooms over the years and none has ever given up the ghost. It performs a role and if it wasn't there then I am not sure what fills the gap.

I assembled it fine, how dare you insult my furniture assembly skills. It is possible the wife and I just have too many clothes for them to handle though..

Sorry, it read a bit feisty and I didn't mean it to. I remember the MFI days where items in the flat pack would regularly be missing, holes would not line up etc. Ikea stuff works in that sense. Some items are solid, some less so. At least you get a chance to see it in the shop, open the doors, pull out the drawers etc. You tend to be able to gauge what is solid and what is more flimsy. I know it is not top end but you are not paying top end prices.

The best story I ever heard about IKEA was when they tried to ban a group of university students from having a massive game of hide-and-seek in one of their stores. That was just a genius idea.

Ikea stuff is okay. Had a few bits over the years and they have always performed well.
Have one of their double beds and matching furniture in the spare room which is really good.
A lot of their A/V furniture is well respected on the A/V forums, (who's members soon weed out the junk), and some of their home lighting ideas are top notch.
Some of their stuff is naff, and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
But for young couples just starting out in life, who select their bits and pieces carefully, Ikea can provide decent, good looking furniture that will last for years.
I can honestly say that in the nearly 20 years that I have purchased the odd item from them, I have never had a problem with any of them.

You’re brave admitting stealing pencils on here.
Theft is theft 🤷‍♂️.

Ps Screw fix is also good for stocking up 😀

We stayed at a posh holiday cottage in Arran.
The mattress was lovely and as we were looking to replace our very expensive 15 year old one we checked out the label and were surprised to see it was Ikea.
We noted the model number and when we checked were surprised to find it was a mid priced one. [about £300]
Bought one and it has been excellent.

I know. Presumably that also infers that I cheat in every comp :D. Pencils from IKEA one day, golf cheat the next, it's a natural progression.

I am actually giving them free advertising every weekend, they should be grateful. Maybe I should charge them
