I stood on my Ball

As a matter of interest have you ever known an opponent call a penalty on themselves for this?

On themselves, no but I played in a comp and an FC announced he had stepped on his ball and found it. Later when telling his marker his score I asked if that included the penalty for stepping on his ball, which it didn't so he added the appropriate penalty.

I trust he added both shots....or did he know enough to have replaced it properly but not enough to have added any penalty?

Hmm thinking about it now, I had assumed he dropped it, but that's probably unlikely. I was over the other side of the fairway when he went off to find his ball. He shouted "oh, I found my ball, I just stood on it!". Later he mentioned his score to his marker and I just asked if he had added his penalty shot, to which he said, "oh no, sorry that's x then". I didn't think to question if he had dropped it.

Out of interest, as he most likely failed to drop it has he now played a ball from the wrong place, would it be assumed he breaches 20-7c and would need to add an additional 2 penalty strokes, so 3 in total?

Out of interest is always good!

It would be a total of 2 shots - have a look at 18-2/21.3 where it sets out the principles at work.
