In homage to all the big hitters out there, let's hear about the time that you ripped one a country mile out there but then blew it. :D

I'll start.

Howling back wind and drove the 351 yard par 4 tenth at the weekend and then three stabbed. :o

Next?

how long have you got????? On monday I drove 265 with wind against, I could not hit a more beutiful drive with so much wind against (approx 25mph wind) it was a par 5 dog leg left with a lake. The next shot was a 6 iron which i tried to put approx 80 yards to the front of the green!!!! I hooked it strait into the lake!!! It has red stakes so I took a 2 club lenght drop on a slope. so the 4th shot I topd about 15 to 20 yards. 5th I hit to approx edge of the green and then 3 putted!!!!! As they say ''driving for show''

Not qualified to comment. :( :( :( ;)

Did drive the front of the first green at Saunton West, over 300 yards, gale behind, downhill, and then four putted   Second hole was in opposite direction same length, and hit a good drive and three wood, and just the three putts.

17th at Blackpool Park, a good few years back.

Drive the par 4 green with the ball running up to pin high, 4 feet away.

3 putts later mark down a 4 and move on the 18th tee....

In recent memory is the 18th at Laceby last week with HickoryShaft.

Narrow dogleg right with OB all down left and punishingly tight packed trees down both sides.

I hit a perfecly hit shot of 270+ yards over the only gap on the right side, drawing it into and up the middle of the fairway.

Pitched the last 60 yards to about 18 feet past, not close but looked an easy putt to roll up close for par or even hole (downhill, slight left to right).

Thundered it 8 feet past, missed the par putt and walked of with a 5, after probably the most brave and accurate drive I have ever done!

6th hole at Stoke Rochford. Pin high left with my drive.
Findlay'ed the chip and Crawford'ed the putt.. Easy 4 though

One of my bogey holes, can never get my approach right, eithr short or flies through the back (when I have not sliced it behind the trees).

Now mine was on 13th at Stoke, just short of the green to the right, duffed it into the bunker, 2 out, 3 putts for a 7.

I haven't got long enough for all mine, but something I do remember involved a Par 3 at the Belfry on a cold windy horrible corporate day. I played off about 19 then and hit a sweet 8 iron to within 6 inches, this was my closest and best shot ever up to this point. I had a simple 6" put downhill for birdie, managed to knock is 24" past, then left it short and walked off with a 4.

KP club on Good Friday uphill par 5, 595 yards, hit a super drive over the tree on the right and into the middle of the fairway, hit an ok 3 wood to be about 30 yards short of the green, chipped onto and through the green, chip back and 2 putts for bogey :(

The par 4 11th of Wycombe Heights is 294 yards off the yellows and downhill to the green and also from right to left, with a steep bank on the right, trees & oob on the left. As I'm rubbish with my woods I smashed it with a 5i arrow straight and after bouncing and rolling quite a bit the ball ended up 40 yards short of the green. It was the best tee shot with any club I have ever made to date & a pure fluke.

I was expecting a nice chip onto the green & two putts to make my first ever par on a par 4, what actually happened was a mis-hit and ended in the greenside bunker on the left which while not very tall/deep it does have an almost vertical wall which my ball was up against. Do you think I could get out of it, could I hell. 6 blooming shots later I'm out, one putt and I walk away with a 9. I was gutted.

Ahhh, a few weeks ago now. I'd started poorly, out of bounds twice on the first, totalling 6 bunkers as well for the first 3 holes. Not ideal. An embarrassing 6 over par for the first, double on the second, and a 3 putt double on the 3rd. Confidence shot to bits.

Then I was there. Our 4th. SI 2. A 421 Par 4. You tee off over the whites and then ladies tees, 60-80 yards of sandy [****], into the fairway. Bunkers left and right. Out of bounds running all the way down the right hand side. Huge wind coming from behind. Obviously, not playing well, I just wanted to slap the little blighter and get in the buggy for a smoke before playing the second.

Nah, i'll light up now I thought to myself. My three playing partners hit, 2 fairways and a bunker. All leaving themselves between 150-180 yards to the front of the green.

I drop my burner onto the ground, stick the tee of justice into the ground, and place the ball on top. Walk away from it, quick glance at my target - I know where it is, it doesn't move every week.

Couple of deep breaths, just relax Whee, club all the way through.... "Cor that wind is strong mate, catch hold of it pal, send her down there" says the devil on my right shoulder. The angel wasn't arguing.

Bang. It was one of those that you know has long gone before your head is up. It headed towards the right hand edge of the bunker... "I might just catch that sand guys..." which was no surprise.

"Nah, you're well past that mate" said one of the guys.

Off to the buggy's, drive down to my playing partners balls, one finds green, another comes 10 yards short and one finds the back bunker. It's a case of get back in the buggy and drive on for my ball. Never hit one like it before.

We get down to it and I can see instantly that i'm behind the tree that protects the line into the green from the sand trap on the right. Drive length, 365 yards as estimated by two of the scots I was playing with - they all congratulated the drive. I was just thinking about the second shot, little flick up over the tree with a sand wedge, land her middle of the green and let her run onto the pin.

That drive was enormous though matey, i'm telling myself. I banish thoughts of long drives from my mind and swing my sandwedge. Duff. It was coming, I knew it.

Right up behind the chuffing tree. Chip out sideways, fuming. Lob wedge for 4 onto the green? No, duff. Crying out loud, it's my favourite club man!

Eventually I get it right, flick it on and then 2 putt. Another treble.

Moral to this story (Timmy, take note) - Being enormous off the tee counts for chuff all, unless you can get your approach right.

I'm still livid about it.

Lots of the par 4's at Wimbledon Common use to be reachable in the summer anyway but there was one, the 10th which was about 315 yards which I could never quite get to bearing in mind this was the 80's and so average drives were much shorter. Played in the Autumn with a real hoolie of a wind blowing. Took it past the tree in front with a bit of a running hook which was unintentional and it landed about 130 yards short biunced straight and kept on chugging. Got on the green by about a yard. Promptly 3 putted and lost the hole to the guy who had hit driver, wedge to 6 feet and holed the putt

No truly awful balls-ups that I can remember after a good drive, although there must be many. It's good to have a bad memory sometimes :)

Last Saturday in our medal I was -1 gross after 8 and hit a booming drive down 9 in a cross-wind.

It's a 540yd par 5, with a ditch about 90yds short of a raised green. My drive was about 290 and the SkyCaddie said 180 to clear the ditch so I ignored the big oak trees guarding the approach and got the fairway wood out.

Yep, caught the 30' tree about 5' from the top of it. Found the ball on the bank of the ditch inbetween tree trunks. Hacked out for 3, went straight for the pin and found a bunker, 1 out and 2 putts for a 7.
It was then that I'd wished I'd laid up with an 8 iron, wedge on to the green and 2 putts for my first sub-par 9 at my current club.

I hit a 310 yarder on our 18 th on Tuesday night leaving only a 6 iron ( cutting a corner) to the green, thus making mince meet of an otherwise tough par 5. I flushed my 6 iron straight into the tree and it bounced straight back and landed 6 inches from where I hit it!

Smashed one just over 300yds last Monday down our par 5 15th, wind assisted. Missed the green with a 7i and only made par. Got my on back on Tuesday though, only hit it about 285 but made birdie.

Got one hot off the press here - monthly medal tonight.

SI 1 460 yard par 4 - very nice drive to set up a makable 2nd shot to the green but let it slide into the greenside bunker.

2 shots out of that and a 3 putt and a nasty 7 after it all looked great.

:o :o

hit a couple of good ones (just short of 300) with wind assisatnce before, but i played with someone yesterday who hit driver wedge over the back of a 515 yard par 5! there was some sort of a gale behind us though :L
