Stableford today, after parring on par 3 first, I then played awful, scoring only 6 points on the next 6 holes, bad slices, hitting off the heel, topping irons, it was terrible. Then for no apparent reason, it all changed on the next 8 holes I scored 21 points, all my woes vanished despite me not knowingly doing anything different. I let is slip on the last 3 but finished with a creditable 34.

But what mystifies me, is why the sudden change in my games *shakes head*

This may not be the problem you had but it can change a good game into a poor one.

You can be swinging with great tempo and striking the ball nicely. You start to make some good scores and then the little nagging demon sat on your shoulder says to you "You are hitting the ball so well with that nice relaxed swing, if you speed it up a bit more just think how far you could be striping it then" So you think "That's correct, lets see how far it goes with a bit more welly" From this point you are normally 'TOAST' Fats, thins, tops, shanks, they all start to appear.

In your case Louise maybe you managed to get back into that nice grooved swing again at some point.

You may well be right SR, I was trying to swing a lot smoother, playing in a fun golf day tomorrow, will see if my swing holds up then.

if i had a pound for everytime i'd blown my handicap and more on the front 9 and made buffer by level on the back I'd have enough for a new set of iron;)

You and me both. I can either shoot the lights out and then come home in the proverbial ambulance and chop like a beginner or play rubbish on the front nine and then play near par golf coming home. If only I could do both

Possibly because you thought about the 24 points, thought about what it could be after 18 holes, and self destruct took over.

My view is that scorecards shouldn't have a gap after 9 holes that allow you to add up and see how well you have done.

On our East course we have a half way house where the delightful Jackie will do her best to satisfy your needs, be it a bacon buttie, mug of Bovril, slice of cake, whatever. It's very strange that people complain that they play the 10th poorly as they seem to have stiffened up a bit. Must be something to do with the sitting around and banter

last competitive round I played 24 points on the way out 6 on the way back - Why does it happen?

Sounds like a comfort zone where you expect to shoot between two scores.
NO EXPECTATIONS PLEASE!

the OMID always maintains that a 'consistent at golf' pill would be a better seller than the little blue pills ;)

Took 60 for the front 9 in this week's Medal and then 49 for the back 9. Maybe I relaxed on the back 9 knowing I'd blown any chance of playing to handicap on the front 9.
