first time on here thought id use it to ask for some advice. i do not have a rescue or hybrid and think i might benefit from using one but there is so many out there could anybody suggest a good one to try
 
I'm in the same boat at the moment. A lot depends on what you want from your hybrid. I tried a cobra baffler rail h and it was awesome except the flight was a bit too high for me. Considering the G15 as it is offset like an iron and as I like hitting my long irons more than my fairway think that might be for me. Be good to hear how you get on.

How much do you want to spend and what is your handicap please?
 
i hit my 7i around 170 175 and 4i around 210 215 then a big step up to my 3w which i hit around 240 250 so have a big void in my game and end up either punching a 4i or choking down on a 3w and trying to slide it in instead of hitting a normal shot so probably an equivalant of a 3i or 2i would be good what recommendations has anybody got for that kind of distance my handicap is 10 at the minute as i have had a few years out and should hope to get lower again soon
 
Well you are allot better golfer than me, but I am a bit of a geek when it comes to reading reviews. I think you are looking at a 19* that works out at a 3I repacement. I will take the budget as open. You should consider the Taylor Made Super Fast, this is a club I have hit and it was beautiful. The G15 gets great reviews if you can get over the looks. I think I read or saw a video of the Callaway Diablo Tour also doing well and maybe more your cup of tea.


As always, you have to go and hit them but this gives you a starter for ten. Shafts is not something I can help you with.
 
thanks i think i will try a few balls with the taylormade superfast as it has had a lot of good reviews and will maybe seak proffesional help on the shaft unless somebody else can suggest a good shaft for sombody with a swing speed of between 100 and 110mph

If you can hit a 4 iron 210-215 and have a fast swing speed, why not get a 5wd or 3 iron? A hybrid is good for getting the ball out of slightly longer grass like the first cut etc but I dont believe they are as shapeable as an iron without it just ballooning up into the air.
 
With those distances, i presume that you play stiff shafts. I have two hybrids a 19* Titleist 909h and a 2009 15.5* Cleveland launcher.
The Titleist is definitely the players club out of the two. Much more workable but also a bit harder to get it going to the right place. The Cleveland though is a bomber as it seems to put less spin on the ball and it just seems to keep going. They also will be about half the price of the Titleist.
Snainton golf have them like mine with the gold shaft for sixty odd quid and there is one on ebay from ESC Golf for £58 with the red shaft.
 
i have super stiff shafts in my cleveland irons with an extension of 1"3/4 also and have inconsistancy with my 3wood and 3iron of the fairway and have no answer in clingy grass except for a drawing punch down the fairway and would like to replace that with a club that can pick it out of the light rough but is also good off the tee for those rainy days with the driver which i think we all no about lol
 
I recently bit the bullet and purchased a couple of Hybrids...

Had spent forever believing they were cheating and that I could do it with the long irons.

Anway, to cut a long story short, I am now much more consistent from 250 yds down to the greens and also from the tees.

I got Taylor Made R7 draw rescues No. 4 22* and No 5 25*.

Our first is a par 5 490 yards and I can now get there with one of each or 2 No 4's if wind is against.

Would now not be without them.
 
Downhill? Or unbelievably powerful swing. Two 4I equivalents 490 yards with the wind in your face is mighty hitting.

Not on the internet it isnt, on the internet i hit my 2 iron 300yds dead straight every shot. I am also 6' 4" tall built like a greek god, stinking rich and have super models gagging for my number :)

In the real world however..........................

It never ceases to amaze me the rubbish on here about distance. I've come back from a clinic with Colin Montgomery and he was saying that his 7 iron goes 165 yards with a normal swing, 170 totally maxed out. However he said he'd never hit the maxed out and would go with an easy 6 so 165 it is for the 7. He said his 3 wood goes 245 (carry) and so might be 250-265 depending on roll.

Now I can't see how or why he'd lie about these things and so it seems that a lot of mid handicappers are actually hitting further than a seasoned tour pro. The question is, how many are putting for the next shot.

If you can hit a 490 yarder in two hybrids why not just leave the woods at home but surely as a prospective 18 handicapper the first will be a drive and a wedge as you must be hitting 300 yard drives too
 
Nah, 2 hybrids, slightly downhill but when it's straight it's long, never had a problem with distance, it's accuracy.

For info I hit a wedge 140-150 and can muller a 7 iron 180-185 if I catch it sweet.

Like I say, distance never an issue, direction is......

The Driver goes a long way just not where I want it, hence the current lessons from the pro at my club.

The handicap will probably be 15, but I know with concentration I can get it down, I generally leave 4/5 shots out there....
 
just bought the taylormade superfast burner sits perfectly behind the ball and i am really impressed with the forgiveness and straightness it has a stiff shaft and seems to suit as i didnt miss a fairway tonight. i maxed out at around 250 but comfortable 230 and reason y i hit it so far is that i am 6foot 4 with super stiff shafts and extended inch 3/4 which makes a lot of difference as extending swing width and speed. i am a bigger hitter than the local pro but he is more consistant and has more accuracy so just because ametures can hit it longer doesnt mean that you can possibly compare us to seasoned pros. and especially colin montgomery because if you compare the biggest ameture hitters to the biggest pro hitters there is no comparrison as we have all seen some pros almost reach 400yards on some ocasions so by comparing it to them we are a lot shorter than pros and cannot possibly be compared to them for distance as they pitch it that distance also most of the time with little roll. but on the hybrid situation i would definatelf recommend the taylormade superfast burner brilliant club both off tee and fairway. and for peolpe commenting on the other lads distance i was 10yards short on our par 5 484 yard with 2 hybrid shots but with wind behind so it is possible but just a shame i made 5 hahaha
