Having started golf again about 5 months ago with the wrong stiff shaftted MP30 irons which I have now switched to a set of much more forgiving cavity back (yuck looking) irons i.e the Wilson Di7's which in terms of performance I am really happy with and I am no longer deluding myself about my ability.

However the set came as 4 - SW i.e. no three iron , so I just wanted some opinions/reccomendations on a hybrid or rescue clubs to fill this gap?

Heard only great things about the Taylor Made burner.

However, whats the difference is distance between your 5 wood and 4 iron?

Th Di7 aint that bad, I had a set for a year before I get fed up of the lofts and lack of feel.

I have the new Burner rescue and its great. The head is a little triangular but it suits it and makes the club very pleasing to look at. If you're looking a for a good rescue I do strongly recommend the Burner

Its important to find a club that hits the ball between you 4 iron and 5 wood - disregard the number on the club look at the distance.

To be fair, most of the reasonable name hybrids out there are ok. Titleist may be a little harder to hit and you also need to think about the flight you want as some hybrids hit the ball higher than others.

With the 'Wilson lofts', you probably don't need one, as the reason they don't come with a 3i, is that it is really a 1i, and everyone knows how hard they are to hit.

Seriously, you need to look at your distance gaps for the clubs you have, and if there is a gap, fill it with something suitable.

The best one I have hit and tried is the Cobra DWS Baffler, a great club and I wouldnt mind the 18* either.

Its the same as most kit, its what is best for you not anyone else.

Hi,
I think distance is the key when buying it i have a rescue mid TP that i would not change and have toof the 5 wood out of the bag as there was only about 10 yards between them if you have a really big gap i'd be temped to take out the 4 iron and get 2 utilities to cover the distance between the 5 wood and 5 iron.

I've taken the 5 wood, 3and 4 irons out and use a 7 wood and 24 hybrid to cover. Leaves me a little short hybrid to 5 iron but its easy to choke down on the 24 and hit it a little softer.

I made that mistake Mike, I bought the CGBmax 5 wood and the #3 rescue at the same time and there was only 10-15 yards between them, so the 5 woods stuck in my garage. I did buy the #4 though and ditched the 4 iron. I'm even thinking of ditching the 5 iron now and replacing it with the #5 as there so easy to hit.

Thanks for all the replies there guys a lot to think about.

One of the reasons to look at the hybrid/rescue is because although the distance of say my 5 wood and a rescue may be similar sometimes it is easier to use the hybrid/rescue than the 5 wood depending on lie or weather you are finding the five difficuilt of the fairway.

out of interest anyone tried the wilson FY bridge club, other than Padraig that is :)

Have a look at the fybrids on the wilson staff main website. I've got the fairways and they perform brilliantly.

On the site it breaks down where abouts their fybrids sit in relation to other clubs, lofts and distances.

I agree with this. The gap between my 4i and 5w was about 25 yards. I have two hybrids, one 20 and one 21 degree. Both fit the bill nicely, but are closer to the 4i. Depends what you want and your swing. I have a playing mate (off 7) who chose an 18 degree one and now doesn't have a 5 wood. he uses it off all the short tees.......about the distance of my 3 wood......lucky guy.....220 yard draws....poetry in motion!!!

hi,
as said above the imporant thing is to buy to fill in the gaps i have found that i hit the utility at least a club further than the same iron a 3 iron = to a 4 utility maybe even a 2 iron a friend of mine has the fybrids and he loves them.
Regards Michael.
