Hybrid vs 3 iron

I've been struggling with hybrids. I started with a TM burner from 2008 but it seems to sit closed and I hit a lot of shots left and hooky with it and not with any other club. That prompted me to go for the I15 and I found the stiff shaft worked better but I started swinging badly and it wasn't as forgiving. Found some long lost AG vouchers (no idea where from - I hate the place) and so got the Superfast burner. It had been going OK but again I've lost confidence. Funny enough I went back to the Ping yesterday at the range and that was goign better again. I need a hybrid for a number of shots at my club where 4 iron is right on the limit and 5 wood is way too much. I use it out of the light rough too (gets a lot of practice) and I think I'm just trying too hard with it

I am either hot or cold with my hybrids, I wondered whether it was the stiff shaft but know I can muller them sweet as so my swing can handle them. What I have found it to be is when I am right on the limit distance wise and try for a little extra oomph. Swing smooth and they go great

My new mantra for the range is par 3 tee shots, finding the right club and swing for our 180 yarder as I dont think I have hit the green yet!

Maybe try the same at the range (allowing for range ball distances of course)

(Swing) Easy Tiger ;)

Another one with hybrid issues - but then I've got issues with most of my clubs at the moment..
I've hit some gorgeous hybrid shots with the 2 I have and I've hit some real stinkers.
Just a bit of consistency would be nice.

Consistently decent
or
Consistently bad so I can dump them......

Every time I try a hibrid, have 2 of them an old burner one that just baloons up at the end of its flight. Plus a 2011 white one that has a mind of its own!. Much prefur my 7 wood we have 2 par 3's, one 195yds to the middle and the other 200yrds to the middle. With the 7 wood I can hit a high draw that drops like a dead hamster (as Homer would say) right on that distance. Or if needed on a par 5 a low screamer. Think its about the only club I can shape with any chance of getting it right 90% of the time.

had a hybrid but i could chuck a half hearted hackers swing at it and still not be punished with wasnt satisfying or rewarding. now the focus needed to pure a 3iron is immense, but the joy of hitting one pure makes my man jewels tingle.

i think a pured shot is nice, but if you can pure a 3 or 4 iron knowing half the golfing community have dropped them because they cant hit one for toffee is a mega confidence thing,. when you smash a 3/4i and your partner asks what you just hit, a response of a 3 or 4iron normally sees all colour drain from their face.,.. its priceless

Im a hybrid guy even if I am still getting to grips with the new one, either goes well or I top it but Its my fault as ive neglegted it at the range to practice with my new irons.

Who said new shinies was something to get excited about LOL

I'm a recent convert to the hybrid, just love the versatility of the thing. The only thing I can't seem to master with it is a low punch shot when required, so I just use the 4 iron! :)

PS How's the golf going? Much sombrero action of late?

Unfortunately not, only managed to get the handicap down by all of 1 point over the rest of the summer despite a long run of playing well, so I'm now off 14, but we hadly have any weekend qualifiers at my club over winter and I haven't played in one for months.

I see you've moved off of 28 at last, congratulations - long overdue I think :)

When I got my new irons for xmas I sold my hybrids and thought that I would be ok with my set up of Driver, 3 & 5 woods and 4-AW + 56 & 60 degree wedges however with the wind and cold I have a distinct gap between my 5 wood and 4 iron, which on 2 of the par 3's is causing me no end of issues due to being too short with the 4 iron and too long with the 5 wood.

While browsing ebay I came across a new MD Superstrong 7 fairway wood with black face and a UST Proforce 65g Shaft, total price including delivery £43.

Given the way I have been hitting my fairways recently I simply couldn't resist so on Friday afternoon I'll have a new toy to try out :D but will have a big decision to make as to whether I leave the 4 iron or my 60 degree wedge in the house .
