Hull Fans Bus Attacked!

Oldham fan stabbed multiple times after leaving a boozer on Saturday.

Anfield seems to be one horrible place for visiting fans to go to at the moment.

I assume Liverpool fans will tell us the attacker was just a scally with no connection to the club?

No Liverpool fans will say, let them without sin cast the first stone. Yes both incidents are very regrettable and are both disgusting. Using a poor fella lying in a hospital bed with stab wounds as a thing to wind up or score points of other fans - have a strong look at yourself.

Touchy.

It wasn't actually a wind up but it says a lot that you feel it's a pop at your fans.

Questions have to be asked if it was a fan that actually attended the game with a knife on him do you not think?

There is zero evidence to suggest that though. It could have been a robber looking for an easy target.

Does it matter? Some poor sod is lying in hospital, but is being used for ulterior motives on a golf forum.

If it was then its a case of wrong place at the wrong time but on a busy match day policing needs to be tighter. Incomprehensible that folk are walking the streets among 45k folk with a knife but sadly its happening.

No one should be walking on the street with a knife on any day of the week not just a match day.

Straight away accusations towards Liverpool fans are being said - don't presume until all facts are found out.

And don't let your fans paranoia get in the way of some straight forward questions and facts being pointed out.

So you suggest that all people within certain radius of a ground are searched on match days? Bearing in mind countless stadia are in housing estates......

Your initially post was full of suggestions and accusations towards Liverpool fans - that's not being paranoid

As someone pointed out - a guy is suffering in hospital after being attacked by a thug and is being used to score points on a forum

So what was your altruistic reason for posting it then?

So posting a further story that suggest the dark side of the game may be returning, the question posted in the OP,is wrong of me then?

Is it because it involves Anfield, again, that is getting your back up?

Even the Liverpool Echo deemed it a worthy news story.Silly me but if I was a fan due to visit soon I would be a bit wary after recent events there and would welcome a heads up.

I find the English National press's reaction to recent events involving disturbances at games odd,we have had a bit up here recently, one of which involved fans of my club breaking seats and it was all over the national press and rightly so.Mind you, that said disturbances at some other games up here have gone un-noticed by the press up here but those ones don't sell their rags so that is understandable.

Dodger you're a clued up fella, "firms" in football still exist everywhere these 2 isolated incidents doesn't make Anfield a really bad place does it?

There's no excuse and I'm not trying defend the attacker neither but there's too many people in society who will walk the streets with a knife and are happy to use it.

Nobody deserves to be knifed whether it's at football match or not.

From what I've heard the "victm" wasn't just leaving a Anfield boozer to go home.

Thanks dodger, your a swell guy and very neighbourly of you.

I'm considering going to Kidderminster harriers soon, can you recommend a coffee shop near the home end.

When I go to away matches to avoid a run in with the local toughs , I normally wear glasses, walk with a pronounced limp and wear a mum-made big woolly jumper, and always buy a home team scarf. Any other recommendations, that I'm missing?

As you know LB, I drink in all the pubs around Anfield, even some of the long term bar staff know me by name from over the years, drank in all the so-called 'home fans only' boozers and never had any issues, OK I don't wear colours but they always knew who we were and I've never had any trouble in Liverpool, unfortunately I can't say the same for the other side of the park, been bushwhacked a few times walking back to the car, especially near the cemetery. I even stay over at times and drink in the city afterwards, again never had any bother.

You can get isolated incidents like this and its very easy to link the 2 being discussed together, but, I personally think they are very different and possibly after reading more reports of both incidents, they may not be football related, just young idiotic thugs acting on impulse possibly under the influence of drink & drugs!

Just my opinion...

Fish, as you rightly said Liverpool is a fantastic welcoming city MOST of the time, but like any football city walk into the wrong boozer/street at the wrong time and it can change dramatically. For those that have and do travel to away matches over the years will know that the FA cup also has a different "special" atmosphere to it.

When a big club plays at a little clubs/lower league club's ground, the whole town works itself up into a frenzy from the day of the draw until the actual day, and every tom, dick and big harry big boots wants to get in on the act. I went to Carlisle in the 3rd round years ago, it was like the wild west.

Also when a little club/lower league club have a big day out at a top club, the same can happen. 5-8,000 suddenly become havant and waterlooville fans (I suspect instead of Pompey or Saints) and the same thing can happen.

I personally think that the stabbing probably was football related and as it was by the Flat iron pub, it is definitely the wrong side of the away/home fans boozer line. The victim isn't helping the police with their enquiries, take from that what you will.

I will never defend everything that my club or my club's fans do, but will defend it against untrue, ill-informed and insincere crap from others.

Out of interest, when you say the other side of the park, for clarity do you mean when going to Woodison (sic) or do you mean if you park that side of the park, even for for Liverpool games?

I don't recall it being welcoming any time !
:D mind you Manchester will be the same when you visit. :)

After parking by the cricket ground, walking past Lou Macari's chippy was always dodgy. Especially in the days of Jobe et al.

We always felt we stuck out like a sore thumb, as you were a load of scruffs. :whoo:

I go to every home game at Anfield, I sit in Lower Anfield Road for all league games - my seat gets taken for FA Cup games due to the away allocation rules changing. I am in the KOP for cup games - there is virtually no trouble with away fans in the ground.

However outside the ground recently there have been a few incidents with teenage scallies hanging round, they are deffo not match goers and are just looking for trouble, at the west ham game a few of them ran into a group of away fans throwing punches and they were stopped by some of the home fans and then handed over to the bizzies (they appeared to allow local justice to be dished out first).

The police were out in force on Sunday particulalry by Anfield road/Arkles pub At the away end, not sure what the fan was doing at the other end - Coming from Oldham he would not have come that way if driving. If on public transport, surely you would go back into town to the station and then get a drink?

Young non-match going scallies around Woodison unfortunately, I always park outside the Bargain Booze shop on Arkle road for both grounds, don't use the car parks, you get trapped in far too long, sometimes the walk back to the car you have to have them peeled, their in the shadows, like Fagins little urchins, waiting to pounce if they think your a soft target. Get the train now though up their, have a few in that rank smelly Punch & Judy, has to be the cheapest beer in the city and opens around 09.30
