how old is your golf club ?

one of the plethora of courses built in the 1990s here, the area is full of them. Some will be very nice in 15-20 years but all are a bit immature still currently

Our centenary is in 2013, so by maths 98 years old. Harry Colt course, and features in 'Creating Classics, the golf courses of Harry Colt', book published a couple of years back.

Original course was only 12 holes, although the plan was to build 18. By 1914, 13 holes had been built before the First World War intervened. Colt returned after the War to redesign part of the original course, and finish off the remaining holes. Introduction of the Haskell ball meant that some holes needed to be longer. Colt returned again in 1930 to make further amendments. Couldn't keep him away from the place !

Some land was sold by the second hole in the 70's, and the proceeds used to buy the course from Lord Selbourne. A new second hole was built which is the only major change since the 30's. This new hole is my least favourite on the course, and is the only one that you can see houses when playing.

1978 built on the old waste tip outside Huddersfield.
matured quite nicly with a damm site more trees than when I first played it in 1981.
Nice clubhouse now with planing permision for a snooker room sun room.
A 15 bay driving range and a good pro shop with about 10 training assistants as well as full time pro's.
Caird Park in Dundee was my old club from a sprog to single figure handicaper, then i left and joined the Grey Funnel Line.
Now trying to find my past form.

1903 and they recently released a fantastic history of the club including its more famous members and pros. Some of the photos are great, You can see when all this (points round randomly) really was just fields!!.

We are celerbrating 100 years of golf at Upavon next year. There have been golf holes laid out on the site at Upavon since 1912 when the area was used for recreation by the newly-formed Royal Flying Corps just before the First World War. In 1918 the Royal Flying Corps evolved into the Royal Air Force who occupied Upavon Aerodrome Station for 75 years. The RAF vacated the site in 1993 and by 1997 the current testing 18 hole layout was established. from the website. http://www.upavongolfclub.co.uk/
