How many?

I average 60% short on missed greens according to ss2 compared to 9% long. I think i it is more down to bad shots than wrong club selection but it gives me something to work on.

I wonder how many people wouldn't go through the back of a green into trouble if they hit one more club each time?

I only ask this question as yesterday I was playing with a 20 handicapper who was hitting every approach shot flat out and still came up short most of the time.
The 150s, after all are to the middle of the green so on average 165-170 to clear the green if hit perfectly.

A decent course will have some kind of run out area behind the greens... or just some rough. Ours mostly have brambles 6 feet from the back, out of bounds or ROADS WITH TRAFFIC!!!!!! :D

22% of GIR this season. Of the remaining 78%, 20% is where I simply don't have a shot to hit the green in regulation (says a lot about my driving this year), 23% are left, 19% are right, 1% is long and the other 15% are short.

Basically I'm directionally challenged left and right if I can go for the green and that I rarely go long and not too bad at getting it there. Driving is clearly the issue followed by the quality of my mid irons

Of the 41% of fairways I've hit, only 18% of shots have then hit the green and if I miss the fairway I'm only hitting 7% of GIR's

And that's why you're Cat I :D

To be serious Bob, and without opening any DMD debate again, it is my Sky Caddie that has helped with this no end.

It gives you that affirmation of how many yards you have as margin of error between trouble at the front and trouble out the back. It then no longer becomes a case of having to hit an iron exactly 150yds [or whatever]. I am now safe in the knowledge that a flushed, Sunday best 'x' iron will not go over the back, and can get away with a miss hit because there is ample room back towards the green front.

Perfick. :)
If most golfers treat 150s as 160, they would reach the green far more often.
How many bunkers around a green are at the back?

I played a different course to my own club the weekend and came 3rd as a guest.... 35 points.
I hit 10 GIR
Missed 1 long right
Missed 3 short right
Missed 3 left in line with the flag but in the sand
Scratched 1 lost a drive in the trees under the fallen leaves....
There was a very strong wind blowing across the course also that i struggled with and its only the 3 round with the new bats but i was happy with my ball striking.....

How many of you hit an approach shot to a green that went through the back and off the green?
..., a full shot, struck well but just too much club.
Compare with the same well struck shot, how many came up short and how many were just right.

Well struck ?

Sorry, don't do that.

:o
