How long do you use you're balls for?

I lost a ball yesterday that I had used for at least four rounds previously, and I got wondering how long people will use a ball for? For those of us with handicaps over 9 does it really make a difference if a ball is a bit worn?

I like a new ball on the first tee in comps but I will happily play with an old ball for just knocking around in practice until it's lost.

I shot +5 for 17 holes yesterday with either a new Cally ix or a scuffed prov-1x. Didn't seem to be much difference to me.
I'll normally use a decent ball to start but I keep some cheaper/scuffed ones in the bag in case I start playing really badly - no sense in knowing you're going to lose a brand new ProV, use a knackered one instead.

And I'll use it till I lose it or its really looking 2nd hand.

I use a new ball and keep it until I loose it, I use Bridgestone balls which can scuff a bit so if I get 3/4 rounds Its time for a new ball, if I loose a ball during a round I change to the scuffed balls.

What I do with my balls is between me and Mrs H

But I try to make sure that whenever I get them out, people at least see me with nice clean shiny balls.

If I end up with dirty old scratched balls I don't care, as long as I've had fun along the way.

I'll always start a competition with a new one and see if I can keep it for 18 holes. At the moment there is more chance of England winning a one day cricket match. If I'm practicing or playing with mates I'll use an old ball. I tend to use it until it looks pretty old and even the ball cleaning machines don't help (about 4 rounds) although it hasn't happened in a while.

Yep.

Eventually, I send worn balls to another pocket in my bag for range use only. Haven't lost a ball in over 8 (?) games, so 200+ full shots is a bit too much!

I'm not losing many at the moment - so I'm picking balls up here and there and they all go in the bag. My aim is to only buy one make/type from now on and gradually have a bag full of one type of ball. As to how long before I change them.....anything with a scuff that looks as though it might not go straight off the tee goes into the practice bag. My theory about gradually replacing the balls with just one make/type is not working, however, as I am finding more than I lose at the moment and therefore end up keeping all sorts!

What I want to know is why, when I go in the rough, I can find everyone elses ball but not mine?
I'll come out with a handful but mine? Gone forever.

Stupid game.......

Around 3 rounds, or until it looks tatty. Thing is, I keep the ball if I get a hole in one, and write the date, hole details, and club used on it as a souvenier. Who wants to do that with a scrubby top flite? You neveer know when the next hole in one is coming.
