Isn't it? Can't be many jobs as cushy as driving round Ireland in a mobile home, playing golf nonstop for two years. A dream job? Abso-golfing-lutely!

I bought the book and got it today. Been laughing me head off. It's not really supposed to be funny but the author doesn;t take prisoners. If he thinks a course is rubbish he's happy to say it. Me nd my mates have played in Ireland a couple of times and I agree with what he says on the places Ive visited - The European, Wicklow, The Island (still a great value place if you head over), Portumna, East Clare and Nenagh.

If you plan to go golfing in Ireland I reckon this is a book to give you some inspiration. If any of you have other good books on golf in Ireland let me know. Almost forgot - book's called Hooked - An amateur's guide to the golf courses in Ireland. Catchy isn't it!

Yea, he says he played every 18 hole course on the island. 349 courses.

Thx for welcome - been looking through other posts and all very friendly. A great forum

Welcome Salmonman.

You are right, it is great to be a golfer in Ireland. It is one of the few sports we can claim to have world class facilities!!

And thanks to these economic times many of the top courses are now becoming affordable. Some decent weather and you golfing paradise :)

The guy liked your courses, judging by the scores. Bangor got 76 out of 100 and he called it 'Brilliance interrupted' - he didn't seem to like your trees. Bellewstown got 73 and he called it 'Mountains of Fun'.

I like the way he does the reviews. He tells you what's good and what's bad and why you should play it. Cant ask for more than that.

Thanks for the welcomes guys. I play off 13 but if I knew how to putt I could go lower. In my dreams anyway

The trees are a real penalty round our course, a lot of them are old trees that deflect or keep any stray shots. Ive lost two balls up separate trees (ooh err) on the same day. Its a fantastically frustrating course that can be easy as pie one day and the other, like today, an 8 came out of nowhere on our 10th hole which has an Augusta-like slope on the front of the green which i putted down past the hole onto and it ended up 30 yards back down the fairway.
