Due to other commitments (work, family and diving) over the last 11 months, I haven't been able to enter any qualifying comps. Recently, I've been able to free up some spare time at the weekend so have entered several comps, but unfortunately they've all been cancelled due to bad weather. My question is, how do I know when my handicap becomes inactive. I know that the last card I handed in was last May, but I don't know when exactly. I've checked the EGU website, but all it's telling me is that the last update was in February this year..

I really need to know this as I've entered a few comps over the next couple of weeks and i'd prefer not to have to play with an inactive handicap...

Cheers in advance,
Danny

I had a similar problem last year, as I remember your hcp lasts for a year from issue. I just asked the club secretary and he told me all I needed to know.

Ask your Pro, or Club Sec
Or if u are on Howdidido, it should be on there
eg......Name, H/cap, 18i ..... i - inactive

Cheers Moogie, I am on Howdidido, but I was hoping to find out when its going to happen rather than finding out if it has happened yet. I know that it's still active, but I also know that it's going to go inactive at some point in the next 2-4 weeks.. I have a few comps coming up and don't want to play and then find that it's gone inactive that day.. I will ask the sec tomorrow when I (hopefully) play...

Does your club not show an active handicap list for quali comps?

Yes, It publishes a list of handicaps weekly. I think I phrased the title of the thread badly. Im trying to find out, in advance, on which date the handicap will become inactive, so that I can plan my comps accordingly. I was hoping that the EGU database would show the information, but it doesn't unfortunately..

It'll probably be best if I just popped into the club tomorrow and found out..

If your playing tomorrow you could always put in a supplementary to fend off the inactive move

I would, but I'll be playing on my own again as I'm an anti-social so and so.. Unfortunately, the members that I usually play with are all "non handicappers" and don't usually play mid-week, which is unfortunate as it's the only time I've had to play for the last 12 months.. Looks like i'll have to be a bit forward and arrange a game with some members over the next few days..

It's already happened! If you are not showing as inactive now, then you are active until 31st December. At that point you will become inactive if you have not played 3 qualifiers/Supplementaries in the calendar year.

Thats fantastic news Rosecott. I knew there was a reason I liked you... I have a lot more free time this year so am intending to play as many comps as possible over the spring, summer, autumn period. Hopefully this should see the handicap drop to a decent figure (or rise to a more realistic figure, depending on whether my swing ever comes back from wherever I lost it).
