How do you find out..?

Course information line, sometimes on Twitter but that's pretty rare, we don't utilise social media sites as much as we should IMO!

Just had an email from the head greenkeeper saying he can't commit to tomorrow due to rain forecast overnight but email will be sent at 7.30am. Pretty impressed with that service.

You have to drive up to the course to see the course closed sign by the front door. Not often put out but to my knowledge it has gone up at least three times in the last few weeks.

We get an e-mail whenever the status is updated on the website. At least that's what happened the only time the status has changed since I joined.

Home page of web site, so no logging in needed. Current situation is closed, but tells us when the next inspection is due

This is a more sensible way, especially for non members wishing to check. Whilst we members have to log in to check on the website, the daily email negates that and suffices for me. Forgot to say that we also have a course information line that carries a recorded message update each day.

Course closed today.
How did I find out..
I met a guy who normally plays Monday mornings in Tescos - I was getting my lunch - and he told me.
Check email... Nothing
Check website.....shows open..
Its a rarity that we're closed so it wouldn't cross my mind d most of the time to phone to find out....
I've been on at them for ages to use email/twitter/faceache to get info out but it seems to fall on deaf ears...

So how do you find out your course is closed...?

Via daily course condition updates on the club website.

Greenies now have a Twitter account which updates each day at about 7:45 - this is embedded on the website too.

Email each time the course status changes, on the website, and an automated phone line.

In the 1990's I was managing a very busy course and weekend morning inspections were a nightmare. We had at least 60 golfers queuing from 4am to book times for the following week most of whom were also expecting to play on that day from first light. [We did a roaring trade in breakfasts]
It was always funny to see the anger/joy when the decision to open/close the course were made, many had traveled 40+ miles to play.

Course closed was generally met with..........'we have played in much worse that that' type comments [the had not even seen the course]

Course open was generally met, after they had played with........'that was awful, they should never have opened the course'.

Ah ...the good old days eh!

Never been closed yet, so I'm yet to find out. But I'm assuming website would be updated. Wouldn't hold my breath though as we still have November's monthly newsletter being our latest one out
