Hi guys, have been looking that this fourm for a few weeks now and have finally signed up. I have recently just got back in to the game after a few years off due to lack of time with school and work comitments, so i was wondering how you guys make the game more fun when you go out to play by yourselfs.

I do have a few friends from work who play but cant always get a game with them, so have found myself going out on my own but generally get bored or mentally drained as i enjoy playing with other people than just me, so do you guys have any tips or anything that might help me when i'm out on my own.

Cheers

I usually try and play two balls. I play the first as I would do normally and then use the second to try a few different shots. Why not use a shorter club off the tee with the 2nd ball and so leave longer shots in to work on that side of the game or drop it in a poor lie around the green and try and get up and down

Evening Homer, Twilight games this time of year would be perfect for two ball off the tee, more worthwhile practice and price wise on a par with hitting a couple of hunderd balls at the range. If the weather holds out tomorrow might just do that myself.

Does it matter if you are on your own? You are playing your own game and your own score is the one that matters. You have to be able to concentrate in all situations and if you can't do that when no-one is around, what chance do you have in a real event?

And Homer only plays two balls because he is so used to saying "I'll hit a provisional" after his first one!

thanks guys, i do usually end up playing two balls on some holes as i usually hate my first drive and hate playing from a bad drive when i know i can play a better one. playing a second drive with a different club and different shots sounds like a good idea Homer thanks.

Two balls off the tee and hit the worst of them to the green. It makes hitting errant shots in a comp easier, also I like to hit a ball out of a bunker on every hole.

i did try that once with the ball from the bunker but got told off by the greens keeper cos it wasnt a practice green!!

Why? as long as you rake it afterwards whats the problem.

I dunno he never gave a reason, i thought it was ok cos how else am i ment to practice bunker play as there isnt one on the practice green,
and usually with my mate we practice putting on the greens after finishing a hole when we have time, plus it was a quiet day on the course i was like the only one out that day so wasnt holding anyone up

I love playing on my own now and again, can try different clubs from the tees, and diff approaches, take a few putts, and just enjoy the peace! i dont need to make it more interesting, I love my family, but the course is me time!! :)

Again when i play alone i try out stuff im not that good at (like im no good using the 3wood off the ground) im a bit more brave alone not so botherd about my score as i treat it as a practice round also with no pressure i find the game more relaxing

Why the absolute bally heck do you need to make it more interesting?

Just to confirm.

You're on your own. You're playing golf. Which immediately puts you in a better place than pretty much everything else you could be doing.

Presumably the weather isn't too bad.

So pause. Look. That's nature you're looking at. And listening to. Enjoy the flowers, and the birds, and the odd rabbit or deer you run into.

Enjoy the peace of not having to talk to anyone for a couple of hours.

If that's not enough for you, you're just not doing it right.

Always nice to have a wee behind a tree ... use the gloved hand and it feels like a lady is holding it for you...... sorry I didn't realise that you meant "more interesting" in a golfing sense, maybe I should read the other posts first!
