Next time you're out make them putt out EVERYTHING, even from 2 inches
Are you speaking from recent experience (yours and mine)?

Why ? Even from a couple of inches ?

Admittedly they might not talk to you for the rest of the round, but that's up to them.
Don't give gimmes at all, make them putt everything.
I think in a competition Match play format, that the maximum distance of a gimme putt must be decided before the 1st ball is struck on the 1st tee.
And thats why some comps or games take so long

If you agree 12" as the distance for a gimme, then anything outside that can be given on a hole but anything inside that is automatically given. Speeds the game up and still keeps the pressure on long putts because if they finish outside 12" the chance is if you've got the game your going to have to putt it again, and the nerves may then kick in for both puts not just the close one.
I always keep a good eye on opponents putting and if they are pretty consistent from distance I'll give them a putt from about 3 or feet feet if I'm confident of taking the hole with my next putt. Try to get them complacent
Because it takes a long time to knock in a 2ft putt?![]()

Not sure where you're getting that from. Not in any rule book I've seen. I'd never agree a gimme distance. Conceding and making players putt's an integral part of matchplay psychology and one if its great nuances
Depends on if they are using aimpoint
Seen a few take forever over a 2ft putt
I never said it was a rule or written anywhere, just what I find works best with the people I play with in comps, we might agree 6" 12" but then anything above that can be given, it just speeds things up. Like you say it is one of the nuances but needs to be balanced with some players fannying about
Have to be honest if you played me and suggested we give all putts within a certain distance, I'd politely refuse and insist we holed out unless conceded on a hole by hole basis. How long does it really take to replace a mark ball, take a practice swing or two and make the stroke? If you have partners taken any length of time I suggest you need to talk to them about pace f play rather than discussing gimme lengths
I would be more than happy to hole out everything if we played, that would be the agreement. Each to their own.
And there is only so many times you can ask people to pick up the pace.

he just wants to speed up the game..........job done; I would simply claim the match there and then citing an attempt to agree to amend the rules of golf!
