Hotels "fining" guests for poor Trip Advisor reviews

How I would react would be completely dependent on their reaction.

People make mistakes, especially when busy. If it's a genuine mistake, and as soon as they realise/I tell them, it gets dealt with quickly, efficiently and they make apologies (not bothered about compensation), then i'm happy.

If when informed they don't seem to care/fix the issue, that's when I get annoyed.

Well that is clearly an establishment mistake, like CH's reply it depends on how it was handled. I was once brought a Chicken Burrito instead of a duck on in Chiqutos, the chicken was actually supposed to be for someone else. In the end I got to keep my chicken one and a duck on. I have no idea what the guy did with his duck one but I guess he got to keep both too.

Man I was stuffed that day!

My reaction was a little bit different.
Prior to this, my mate (who had ordered his steak "rare") had been served one that was definitely the "well done" side of "medium".
He had to send that back.
My 22oz T-Bone was nearer to 12oz than 22. My wife's 16oz Rib-eye was almost twice the size.
I don't like mushrooms, so had ordered the salad to accompany my steak, rather than the more usual "fried bits". Staring up at me from my plate was the biggest portabello mushroom I have ever seen.
Because my steak was so small I ordered a side of onion rings. These never materialised, although our plates were subsequently cleared and we were offered dessert.
When the guy serving me (I won't call him a waiter) asked me if everything was okay, unfortunately I let rip.
Manager came over and said, "I don't know what happened with your friends steak, our chef has been cooking steaks for years".
My response was "well maybe he'll start getting it right soon"
And then to be told that they were busier than usual because they had two large tables of 16 in....I suggested he stopped taking large bookings if he couldn't manage.
When I go out for a meal, I couldn't give a monkey's toss how many else are in the restaurant. All I care about is that the four on my table get decent service.
It was a new steakhouse that had opened up in Bexhill, and they were charging London prices. I expected better service and didn't get it.
I let trip advisor know about it.

I booked a Sunday lunch party for 25 in a television chefs swishy restaurant, they just couldn't cope and all the dinners were cold and served on cold plates. 7 diners complained and their part eaten meals were taken away, they were reheated and the waitress didn't not who's was who's and just plonked them down on anyone's place who's plate was missing!! They made loads of other errors and when I complained they offered me and the good lady who's 60th the meal was for, a free set menu lunch !

Had I not fought for a full refund goodness knows what I may have written on Tripadvisor !
