Hot to open a .JAR file

Could anyone plse recommend the best s'ware to download to be able to regularly open a JAR file. When I currently try I get a message from Java Virtual Machine Launcher saying "could not find main class. program will exit". Any help gratefully received

have you tried to reload Java

I tried to reload java earlier and caused more problems. Laptops been playing up of late so have done a restore and will reinstall and try again, thanks Phil

As phil says you need Java (version 7? is the most recent.) Uninstall any oracle/java stuff first then reinstall java. Oracle stuff is pretty temperamental in my experience.

Gotta love this system, go to java uninstaller and it tells me it needs java to run and redirects me to an installer lol

Have you tried install the Java virtual machine as that is where the .class file runs to compile the machine code?

will try that now, its that or the laptops going out the window lol
