So now the expected hose pipe bans look like they are going to start coming.
How do you feel about this, when leaks are left and you have a metered supply?

Is it right things like the huge amount of hand car washes are left running?
At least those machine car washes are supposed to capture the water and recycle its use, hand car washes let it all go straight down the drain.

Being honest, I’m surprised it’s taken so long for these bans to start coming and even more surprised it’s not here in the southeast that’s first out with them.

It's clearly an extreme period of dry weather so I don't have an issue with any ban, should it come in. I see people watering their lawns at the moment and it goes through me. Grass recovers, don't waste water.

There are huge issues with leaks in the system but pipes are getting updated over time. Our whole estate is having the pipes updated from 1970's metal to modern day plastic pipes at the moment.

I'm not here to defend water companies but I don't think it is unreasonable to ask people to cut back at the moment.

Reservoirs are full, as such there's not a shortage of water per se, they simply can't treat it quick enough.

Not according to pictures I'm seeing on BBC this morning....could be isolated but the ones they're showing look dangerously low.

it does make sense but also does annoy me.. leaks are a major cause of water not being available (not always their fault ofc) and being on a metre is so annoying! my parents could leave there tap running all day every day and pay a set fee (they wouldnt) yet I pay almost the same and use water saving measures (suppose thats the point)

ive never had a hose pipe ban since owning my own home.. how does it work? for example we bearly use our hose pipe.. I was my car using those waterless sprays most of time (every now and again ill use the pressure washer but like more winter when its too mucky for waterless) we dont have plants (all fake grass and patio, which is cleaned using wet n forget with rain water from my water butt)

anyways the only thing we use the hose for is the dog... he has Epilepsy so sometimes he gets covered in mess.. (not his fault) or he makes the fake grass very dirty (too dirty to just water down) so a quick hose down for the grass and him.. i take it thats out?

Don't think I am going to enjoy sharing the shower quite as much as I did in '76...

Never mind the leakages [we've had multi-several burst mains in recent weeks locally] its lack of building new reservoirs in relation to the huge increase of new homes...

Not far from where I live, the water company has sold off what was 3 covered reservoirs for housing. I guess that makes sense doesn’t it.

I get the “don’t waste water”, I always have been of that mindset since my dad always said “one day, water will be worth more than gold, so look after it”
But whilst I try and use as little as I can, apart from having a meter and finding my unit costs going up because I use less, what does annoy is the lack of response from the water companies when you report a leak.

We've been inundated by Thames Water's PR dept to remind us that it's 'Green to be Brown', referring to the grass around us. However, there has been a leak a road away from us that has been ongoing for 6 months, it's been reported on numerous occasions as, when coupled with rainfall, the road is impassable. During that time nothing has been done to remedy the leak. On that basis I will continue to use water as I see fit and if that means watering my lawn or whatever then so be it.

United Utillities hose pipe ban on 5/8/18 in the north West.
By the time this starts it will be the monsoon season if past years are anything to go by.

Same things as everyone else , been a leak for months at bottom of the road .
They are building so many new houses around here but no resivours, schools etc,

There needs to be more public services not less.

The reservoirs in Lincolnshire are 90% full, so if anyone fancies a bath.........

That makes me worry a little about the current cleanliness of the people in Lincolnshire. No rain for 6 weeks or so and you have only used 10% of the water you started with. Do they not wash? Eeeek

And they only have one bath every year whether they need it or not

I heard that in some areas they were advised to take a shower and not a bath. "How can we?" came the reply "It's not raining"
