Has anybody else been having a problem with these horrible creatures? I was out last Sunday and it was like something from a horror movie - I ve never seen so many of the things- I got bitten 5 times the rest of my 4 ball also suffered just as badly. It doesnt help your putting when one sticks their teeth in and god they itch afterwards!
Does any body know of a good repellent?

Cheers

I've tried quite a few and some are useless- key thing ideally is dont wear aftershave NOR scented deoderant NOR moisturisers etc etc, some sun screams (non scented) are quite effective as they land on a layer of cream and cant bite, however, this link is useful for some effective products

Thnk that Jungle Formula spray is good.

+1, Jugnle spray all the way, that or Autan Protection Plus, Multi bug barrier (for Mosquitoes, Ticks and Biting Flies_

i got bitten by a horse fly last summer, leg got all infected and ended up having to have Anti Biotics to clear it. thing was nasty and very pain full.

They are mofo's for sure. Did you know, unlike a Mossie, they dont stick a probe in to suck your blood, they rip your skin open with powerful mandibles. Nasty.

They are little B@stards and they bloody hurt.
Ive just ordered some Skin so soft so will keep you posted.
I've been told Tea Tree oil also helps.
Apparently they hunt by sight so if you move, they are on you! I refuse to play golf in camoflage

Course i used to play bordered a dairy farm, from mid june through till early August you couldn't stand still for 1 second without a horsefly landing on you.
Even with a buggy you can't outrun the barstewards !!!!
I was bitten twice on the wrist a few years back, looked like i'd pushed a couple of Pro V's under my skin, couldn't play golf for a fortnight.

+1 on the Jungle Formula. The playing fields where until recently I used to coach kids football back on to open countryside. Never been bitten when I've remembered to spray with Jungle Formula, but when I forgot I invariably came home with one of those subcutaneous ProV's.

One of our Greenkeepers got bitten the other day and had a reaction - ended up in Hospital for a few days with blood poisoning!!
