Ive had to drop out of next weeks GM day at Hollins, as I'm away, but took the chance to play there on monday with a friend, so thought I'd post some thoughts.

Monday wasnt brill weather, in fact as we teed off, the heavens opened, and the waterproof's came out.
However, it wasnt for long, and the rest of the afternoon was generally ok meaning we could play the course dry at least.

Hollins is a hilly course, and thank god we took a Buggy, as some of the walks between tees' are quite tough I would think.
It was in great condition, despite the dry 2 months we've had, and the rain this week should really get it into superb condition for next week.
The Greens were good, altho quite firm, but again, with the rain, that might improve.

Lots of the holes have some elevation changes, leaving tricky club selections to hit the green's, but there are some lovely holes, not least of which the 'Signature' hole, 16 I think it was, with a huge old Viaduct as a backdrop to the green.
Its a tricky little hole, big drivers might be tempted to try for the green, but a gentle 4iron downhill to a very tight fairway leaves only a Wedge back up to the green. Lovely hole.

Some of the Par3's are very nice too, and the whole course, altho not long, requires some careful Club selection to put you in position to score, so get yourself a Scoresaver, and take your time over the shots.

All in all, a lovely course, and if you have some sun, it will be a fab day.
I wouldnt hesitate to play it again.

Played this yesterday with Tincup.
Agree with you on the course, hilly but open.
The rough is short and not may problems for the average player.
Some of the holes may require a bit of thought if we are off the whites on Thursday.
The greens are receptive and steady, they were fast and if they cut before may be even faster.
Hopefully the cart will be available for the comute upto the 1st tee and also the 10th to the 11th.
These are cardiac arrest climbs.
Did play out of a couple of the bunkers and found the sand soft and receptive to a good hit.
Beware of the walls that run across a few of the fairways which can catch a wayward strike off the tees.
Otherwise a test of keeping it on the short stuff and watching the club selection for the uphill downhill sideways fairways.
Enjoy. :D
