I played a local target golf course (9 holes all short par 3) last Saturday and had a hole in one on a 107 yds hole. It's my first year of golf and I never even got close to have one on a regular course so I was extremely happy but didn't feel like that was a "proper" hole in one.

So I bought a drink to my playing partner only...

What's your opininion?

Tough call, well done either way matey. It could well count but you know deep inside that you cant wait to do it for real on a "proper" course.

In my view the Course needs to have a SSS to qualify as a "proper" course. If not then it's a pitch'n'putt practice facility and doesn't count. Good effort though!!

I have to agree with Imurg on this one

I had a couple of HIO's on a local pitch and putt when I was 15/16. I dont count them as proper ones though therfore never really mention them except when reminiscing with my mates back oop North.

well done all the same :)

The fact that you're asking the question on here suggests you don't quite believe it's a "proper" one in your heart of hearts...

Well done though, it's more than I've managed in 20+ years playing the game.

I've had 2 holes in one on the same hole on the local par-3 course in the same year...but to be honest, I don't count them as 'proper' holes in one. Still, well done though!

Yes I don't feel like it was a hole in one but probably because it was on the shortest or so hole of the course.

If I had had it on the 170 yds hole I would probably put it down as a hole in one. The one I had feels more like an eagle on a par 4.

Have had a couple of HIO in par 3 comps years ago , have had endless ammount when i played P&P , still none on a proper golf course , i class myself as never having got one at golf mate, sorry .. some feat in your 1st year of golf tho .. keep it up well done

I have always believed that to claim a hole-in-one, it has to be on "proper" golf course and in an organised qualifying competition. However, to do it on any occasion is a great achievement.

When I first started playing I went to the Par 3 course quite often and made several birdies. Even though some of the holes are 150-180 It still never really felt the same as when I started making them on the proper 18 hole course.

I'm in the camp that says you need to do it on a proper course. <120 is really nothing more than holing out a pitch shot. Still it proves you can knock it close so get out on those par 3's and do it for real

why in a qualifying comp?

hole in one is a hole in one whether in a comp or a bounce game surely

Well done, take credit for your achievements and may there be many more.

I had one six weeks ago on a 190 yard par 3, it seemed like the ball was moving in slow motion as it rolled up and dropped in.
