Just wondering has anyone with a swingspeed over 100 mph used or use a higher loft driver.
Im wondering if having good success with a 15.5deg 3 wood whether or not hitting say a 12 degree loftd driver would be a better choice....

I've tried 12 or 12.5 degrees, and it didn't really help. Mind you, that wasn't in the same make of driver.

The pro who properly fitted me (unlike the first one) said I didn't need more loft, as 10.5 was giving me a perfectly adequate launch angle.

Guess it's horses for courses.

I use a 10.5 and when i got fitted over a year ago my speed was around 95. Yesterday during a round i drove the ball over the 300 mark with a slight draw with a Bridgestone 330s that i had found on my travels. Not sure if the ball made any difference or if my speed has steadily increased over the year. I generally carry the ball to the 250 mark when im in tune. More loft would be a headache on windier days and you wouldnt get as good roll out id imagine.

The i20 Lee Westwood is breaking in is 11.25 degree's !! I'd give a higher lofted driver a try. Use whatever gets you on the short stuff !!

I use a 12.0 deg Ping G20 with tour shaft

Remember its loft and shaft and swing speed = flight

Is it that bad Dave......
I know the swing might be off a little every now and again but to be honest i have no problem getting a ball up in the air....Whether that is with a 9 degree or a 10.5 degree driver....Its the sideways movement im trying to tame....
Im kinda curious to know why i hit a 3 wood straight 9 out of 10 times with the odd one being a hook.....
And with a driver its more like 4 in 10 straight with the others a mix of hooks fades cuts and slices.

I suppose if you like hitting it straight but short, then not really.

Not in the wind mind you.

My partner swings it pretty fast, I'd guesstimate at about 110 mph. He can get it out there 270-280 ish, maybe a little more. He plays 10.5 (I think?) D2.

The maximum carry for him would be 250+ with a 13 degree driver (no extra loft through impact) and the maximum total would be around the 11-11.5 degree (also no extra loft). In reality, he's adding a few degrees. Once you go up too high, the loss of distance is not only statistically bad, but you can see it go very very high and short.

"Of course, too much loft could be just as detrimental as too little. With additional loft comes additional backspin. This creates too much energy that goes into the vertical component of velocity coming off
of the face which could rob one of distance. So there is a narrow window as to what loft would maximize the launch condition for each golfer."

Outside of the "window" is simply a no-no.

A 3 wood is shorter, doesn't really require "hitting up", offer easier control, etc. More loft should help side-spin and of course, as the ball goes less far, that means stopping short of the cabbage.

The reason I hit a lot of fairways is more down to the distance than the accuracy. If I got up to 250, say, I'd be in trouble more often.

b.t.w. it occurred to my partner the other day to ONLY use his 3 wood. He out-drives me with it, and has half a chance of not being in snookered in the trees, which is the main problem at mine.

Myself and my BB partner both swing just over 100mph, we both hit the 13degree TMsuperfast HT exceptionally well as in straight, my only issue was it went too high for me but try it, it's very good and goes far.

One other question......Whats the verdict on a strong 3 wood....Say 13 or 14 degrees

Try one of the Taylormade drivers and then you can switch it between 9 and 12° with options inbetween

I have had many drivers over the years. Having tested all the new drivers on the market, I found the up rocket ball to give me a strong ball flight. It had a much lower spin rate. I use a 8.5degree at the mo and create a high spin. A higher loft does not mean higher flight. In many cases it can lower the flight.

I would advise you tested a few drivers but just stay open-minded to the options. A choose what works for u and not want everyone else is getting.
