I'm trying to allocate my meagre holidays, and one opportunity I have is to play 36 at Hindhead in early June for a good price.

Anybody played it and have a view?

TIA

Yes and Yes. Top course.....

I used to live around the corner from Liam (who's at Puttenham i.i.r.c.)

To those of a Surrey disposition (and I mean the real Surrey, not the London-Surrey toffs) then Hindhead is one of the must-plays.

The picture on the homepage tells you all you need to know

Personally, I'd include West Surrey and Old Thorns in with Hindhead as some great golfing venues.

I'm a HUGE fan of West Hill as well....

Yep.
Played it a few times, and it's a top day out. Lovely course, always in first class condition and is definitely well worth a visit.
After a fairly ordinary 1st hole, the fun begins and you start playing the front 9 in some wonderful valleys, with two of the best par 3's you'll play anywhere. The front nine is a superb test of golf. There's a really good par 5 on there (can't remember which hole now) and the par 4's that go uphill require a bit more club than you first think to get onto the dance floor.
The back 9 is on higher ground, and has a different feel to it, more heath and heather and a little flatter. The closing holes are really tough, but don't let that put you off. I love Hindhead, and if it were a little closer I would play it a lot more. It's not too knackering, I have played 36 holes there a couple of times and have still been able to walk afterwards....play it. I promise you won't be disappointed.

As RGDave mentions above, Old Thorns is a decent enough track, much newer than Hindhead, so therefore not quite so picturesque. Never played West Surrey but Westhill is a good course. The old secretary from Crowborough Beacon moved there and invited me up for a game once. Absolutely loved it. Bloody tough track though. I think par is 71 and SSS is 73. Or something like that..

Yes I played there in a junior league match last july/august and would definately recommend it as a must play. Its not really your average parkland course, its very and I mean very hilly. I can only remember a few holes being generally flat from tee-green. When I played the course in the league match, it was believed to be at its toughest, the rough/heather was at its tallest making for lots of lost balls thinking back to how eratic my driving happened to be that day. Hence losing the match by quite a few holes.

But tbh, you can choose from a wide variety of courses around hampshire/surrey. Liphook, Hankley Common, Worplesdon, West Hill and my very own Puttenham to name a few. Worplesdon is still the best course I have played and will be joining there next year.

Whatever you decide to choose I hope you enjoy your day as i'm sure you will.

Dave I really must get around to playing West Surrey. My masters towel arrived today!! :)

Thanks guys. Liphook and Westhill I have played and loved. Old Thorns is closer to home and I may get on there after work one day. The day at Hindhead is an old fixture that I love to play in, so i may well take the plunge and go for it. It's making those days off count to the max, and I think this one may well be worth it.
