hello fellow golfers, just introducing myself properly, have been using the forum for a few weeks now and have found it a great place to be.

i have started golf this year at romanby golf club, i've enjoyed a great season so far with my handicap falling from 24 to 15. :)

Hi Lloydy , welcome to the asylum, 24 to 15 -hmmm not bad in one season, plenty of room of improvement yet though, where are you going wrong and where right?

hi birdieman, the thing i need to sort out is course management, if i hit in the trees off the tee, i always spend the rest of the hole trying to make up for it, taking on shots i shouldn't it's a silly thing really but is the only thing keeping me from consistent good scores.

Hi Lloydey84 good to have you on board. If the reason behind your name is your surname and year of birth you are identical to me!!
Hope you enjoy it on this forum, its been a bit mad recently!

Ah the old course management chestnut - often talked about with hindsight, rarely implemented on the course!
It is critical, playing to your strengths, took me about 15 years of playing golf to start occassionally playing the correct shot i.e. 'take your medicine' if you hit it in the rough or out of position dont try to be the hero and attempt a shot you might pull off once in ten tries. When you start doing that your scores will improve!

Good point.

I was playing a tree-lined parkland course the other day and in spite of actually being on the fairway, albeit the wrong side, I was blocked out by the trees on at least 4 holes (hence my rant about trees apparently being 90% air!).

In my youth I'd have gone for the risky 5 wood over them but nowadays it was a chip further up the fairway, hence getting rid of the opportunity for a double bogey or worse. Shot a 78 in spite of these "lost" 4 shots so my decisions were justified, I suppose.

Now if only I'd placed the ball on the correst side of the fairway. Sign of a good tactical course that, I think.

Thanks guys, from now on i am going to try to consider all the options before hitting my shots. htl- no my name doesnt refer to my date of birth, sorry to disapoint, 84 was just the score i had on the day i registered.
