I'm now starting to take a divot with my short irons and wedges and need a little advice.

On the range, I lay a club on the floor and line 3 or 4 balls against the shaft (Yellow line on picture). When I remove the club the balls are in a straight line. I find this gives me an idea of where my divot starts (in relation to the next ball).

As you can see, my divots are infront of the ball, however they seem to start either where the ball meets the turf or fractionally forward of this, rather than an inch or so infront of the ball

Is this OK? or should there be an inch or so after the ball before the divot starts?

Any opinions welcome

PS apologies for the poor quality, picture was taken on my phone.

Thanks for the reply Bob.

I was just a little concerned that the divots were a little too close to the ball and I maybe needed my swing tweaking.

If you say they are OK, that's good enough for me.

While we're on the subject of divots.

I've noticed over the last few tournaments that alot of pro's have started taking divots with fairway woods!

Is there a reason they would do this?
