Hi ladies and gentlemen,

I took up Golf about 3 months ago and have well and truly enjoyed the journey so far.

I have now relocated to Liverpool (Aigburth area) and i'm keen on joining a club, but haven't got a clue which one.

Can anyone recommend any, but more importantly does anyone fancy inviting me along for a round to show of their club so i can taste a few clubs/courses and then decide which one to join.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts/comments.

Regards, Steve

Hi Steve

Im not a member of club i merseyside but have played a few, depends if you want private or muni.....

Nearest to you is Allerton which is a muni, then youve got Childwall,Woolton and Lee Park which aint to far from you.

There are a couple forum members who are members of Lee Park, hopefully they will come by and give you some more info or even better an invite:thup:

Hi podg I am a memebr of lee park .... The others are Stu C and Liverbirdie .... I could give u advice about those two but will let you make your own mind up.

I joined LP in March the course is ok and stayed open through the wet weather

I'm busy for the next week or so but pm me if u want and we can try and arrange something or wait and see if Stu c can offer something sooner.

What are you insinuating there mush??

Steve, welcome along mate you've got a choice of 5 clubs within 20 min drive

Allerton is a muni not a bad course but does tend to attract whoppers trying to smash balls every where.

Woolton GC - a nice flat course in the nice sunshine but gets very wet and from what ive heard very unfriendly members.

West Derby GC - a very nice flat parkland course but doesnt drain very well and has been shut over the last few weeks. No spike bar and no cctv in the car park thats had problems with cars being done and gear stolen.

Childwall GC - Probably the best course but very snobby and theyve still got a joining fee. You must play it though.

Lee Park - a nice parkland that drains pretty well and the greens are always very good.

Huyton and Prescot - a very nice course but too many blind shots for my liking, lovely clubhouse but no spike bar.

Id suggest you try blagging a courtesy round at all of the courses then decide which one you want to play at.

Pm me when you're free and ill take you round Lee Park if you want.

Beware playing with scouser...... you have been warned!

Hi all,

Have spoke to Liverbirdie, albeit via PM as he is enjoying himself watching some pre-season footy and he is available around mid-august.

I played Allerton this morning so that is one down as it would be wrong of me to at least play all the local courses already listed by Stu C. I have a friend who is a member of West Derby so i plan to get on there at some point.

I see LP have a good offer currently online and would like to meet up for a round with any of you as you can learn more through chatting to people as well as just going along for a round.

Stu C, thanks for your honest and forthright views on other local clubs and that's greatly appreciated for someone who is new to the area and doesn't have a clue about the clubs within the region.

I am free quite a bit at the moment and it would be a quality excuse to get away from unpacking boxes so i think the best way is for Stu C or Scouser to give me a shout next time you are planning on going for a round where you are able to have a novice tag along.

I look forward to hearing from you all

Steve

Scouser,

I'm available Thursday if that's still a plan of yours.

Have so far played Allerton and Arrowe Park and have been told I can go along and look at Childwall and Walton at some point so will do that over the next couple of weeks.

Keep us updated when you're free and I'll ensure my diary is empty. I'm only busy Tuesday this week.

Thanks, Steve

Are they still asking for a joining fee and Did you ask for a courtesy round?

Stu,

I'm going round there at 1000 tomorrow for a look and a round. Would be good to do a round with some members at some point to see what they have to say.

Had a Steve Settle on the phone arranging it all for me. Hopefully the weather will be nice in the morning

Ste is sound he sorted me out when I joined. I am still not sure about Thursday yet will let you know as soon as possible.

I may be up there about 5-30 tomorrow.

Guys,

Went and played there yesterday and had a thoroughly enjoyable round and yes it was complimentary.

Good set up, appeared nice and friendly and Steve was extremely accommodating with questions that I had.

Just going to have a look at a few other places as I would be stupid not to.

Would still like to go round with a member and pay my way to chat about the place. If anyone is playing and have a space free then give me a shout.

Thanks Steve

Glad you enjoyed it, it's not in the best condition due to the weather but I'd be surprised if wet derby and woolton are open after the amount of rain we've had.

I'll arrange a game next week with you, I'm busy this week with work.

Who did you play with?

Have you been to childwall yet??

Stu,

Not played Childwall, but going to look at playing some of the others already mentioned in this thread over the coming weeks.

Only ones I have played so far is Allerton, Arrowe Park, Lee Park (yesterday and was the only one open) and tomorrow going round Ecclestone Park. Hopefully going to do Lee Park again on Monday with Scouser if he is free.

Played Lee Park with a guy who is in the same predicament as me in not knowing what club to join, but i don't think he is going to bother joining one full time where as I think i've made my mind up, but want to clarify it by checking out some of the other places first.

Let us know when you are free as my diary is fairly empty at the moment apart from unboxing after the move and doing any jobs the long haired general comes up with.

Will do mate but don't tell Scouser when we're playing ;)

Ecclestone park is a decent track with some tough holes, I had a hole in one on the 4th there aswell. I don't like the overhead power lines that go through the course.

My mate was a member there but he left because he struggled every week to get a tee time of a weekend.
