I am driving from Fife down to Bassingbourn Barracks, Royston, Herts on Thursday for my sons passing out parade following his his Army Basic Training. I have a car full of women, mum, grannies and sister and hope to break up the journey (change my ear plugs) for a decent lunch. I have estimated that I will be on A1(M) near Leeds/Sheffield.

Does anyone have any recommendations of where to stop and have lunch. I don't mind leaving the Motorway and heading off route for a couple of miles or so. Nothing too fancy just decent food/surroundings.

There's a cracking service station at weatherby with plenty there which will be over halfway there

Alternatively head to the nearest town from the motorway, plenty on the way, Maybe Darlington as a half way point?

I live about 10 minutes from Bassingbourn and if you want food before you head back I can recommend Little Venice on the A428

unless of course you are staying over.

If you are and not found a hotel I can recommend

Thanks that's Great. We are staying at a B & B in Orwell on Thursday night and heading back up the road on Friday after the passing out parade. Little Venice looks nice and a meal there before heading back could well be on the agenda.

Thanks for the recommendation re the Service Station. I noticed it on the Route Finder and being about halfway it would be perfect.
