Hi everyone, I am James.

I discovered golf many years ago at the ripe ol' age of 25 when invited to play in a society match by my brother. I borrowed my dads clubs and promptly shot a 99 as my first ever round. Everyone told me how good it was (apparently) so I played the next day and shot 101 - I was hooked! I couldn't believe that I had played worse than the previous day - I went on to play every day for the next 3 years, eventually costing me 2 lost businesses!!!

I ended up playing as a low single figure for many years but decided to hang up my bats after a major shank attack in a monthly medal and concentrate on something that I enjoyed more than shanking the ball into the rough (even self mutilation was preferable!). I didn't play again for 7 years.

I have been playing again for 10 months now. 3 months ago a friend video'd my swing and I nearly fainted... it looked awful, no wonder I had that shank attack all those years ago. I've learnt more about the golf swing (and especially mine) in the past 3 months than I did in all the other years put together and am back to single figures, hitting the ball better than ever. All I need to do now is play more often!

FWIW: At the moment I am experimenting with stack and tilt, I'm finding it awsome. I might not stick with it but it's part of my learning curve and it's going really well, especially for my age :D

I play mostly at East Sussex National
http://www.eastsussexnational.co.uk which are two awsome courses.

I'm also happy to travel out for a round with anyone who invites me, time and distance permitting.

Well, that's enough about me :)

Regards to all
James.

Something I do after Family Guy and before breakfast, usually waken up atleast 5 times by cat, on-call phone, wife, or thirst.

East Sussex National eh? Played there more times than I care to remember. Much prefer the East to the West course....but neither are a patch on what they used to be. The greens used to look like they had been ironed!
So whereabouts are you based James?

I'm in Crawley near Gatwick.

I can't comment how East Sussex National used to be as I've only been back 10 months. I know that they have held a lot of tour events there in the past as the scoreboards in the clubhouse have all the top pro's names Faldo, Seve, Ernie, Monty etc etc.

The courses have been fantastic over the winter. I don't have a preference, East or West courses are both great. They don't do temp greens or tees and the greens are the best I've ever seen. I recently played the members only course at Mannings Heath which is supposed to be highly recommended and frankly it was shocking! I wanted to walk off the course it was that bad. It makes it hard playing other courses when you get used to such a good standard - I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

Welcome James good intro, back to single figures in ten months after seven years out  the swing cant be that bad.
I can only say EVERYONE should get their swing video'd :)
It was shocking mate. I was standing too tall, taking the club back way inside, pointing right of the target at the top, barely clearing my hips with the club on the way down, the ball was way-back in my stance. I have spend HOURS, DAYS even WEEKS watching every golf instruction video on YouTube, looking at the pro's swings in slow motion, what their right hip does on takeaway, the left hip, the hand positions, the rotation, the spine angle, the swing plane etc etc it goes on. I didn't FEEL like my swing was that bad until I saw it - it's beyond me how I ever got to single figures in the first place. My only regret is that I'm too old to do anything about it now... 40 is but a sniff away :(

They held the European Open there for two years, 91 and 92 I think. Gordon Brand Jnr won it the first year, David Gilford (I think) the second.
Have you played Copthorne yet? Close to Gatwick, nice course. And Tilgate Forest is good for a muni. Catch it at the right time of year and it's a pleasure to walk around. Couple of "Mickey Mouse" dogleg holes, but generally quite a good test of golf.
Wasn't knocking East Sussex by the way, I always enjoy playing there. But if you think the greens are good now, you should have seen 'em 15 years ago. They were crackers.

I used to live in Copthorne, I know the course well and have played it many times. I even remember it in it's original state before they added 'new' holes some 20+ years ago. Great greens when they are looked after.

I cut my teeth at Tilgate, that's where I had my first round (99) and I might even go play there this afternoon for a laugh, it's only about £9 for a twilight round. It's a hideous course because of the fact that every man woman and child walk their dogs across the course, ride their bikes across it and frankly Glendale Golf who own it don't appear to have invested much money in it thus far. If it was made private and they put in some decent drainage and better tees then it would be beautiful. The 17th in full flower is as beautiful as Augusta.

I just checked out Highwoods website - odd that I've never heard of it! What's it like?....
