Headcovers or not

Head covers shows that someone cares about their clubs and cares about the noise they make.

Head covers protect clubs to a degree.
They stop a lot of noise.
They dont slow anything up as far as I can see.

I dont understand why it becomes questionable?

I have never asked anyone why they 'dont' have head covers yet I have been asked a few times why I do? :D

If pro's were given only one set of clubs to last the entire season or longer, with no changes allowed unless club is broken, Im certain you would see all of them covered and any caddy forgetting would be beaten to death with the uncovered club. :D

Does it matter either way?

Totally agree!!

It's important to protect your kit, however you want to do it. But why don't driver / wood and hybrid covers protect the shaft rubbing on the bag dividers anymore?

Thats a very good point, I remember some head covers from way back that had really long bits that went half way down the shaft, you could even get them with zips, maybe its cheaper to produce the shorter ones :D
 
I cover my woods and putter as with clatter, the painted finishes would get maimed.

As for irons & wedges, couldnt care less if they clatter and tbh, the sound of forged Irons clattering together in the bag is very nice!

Not if somebody is trying to play a shot or hole a putt. There's nothing more annoying in my book. If your clubs chatter you should wrap an arm around them to stop it.

I use covers for all clubs. I wasn't a fan of iron headcovers initially as they all seem to look cheap. However, i found some nice Callaway ones in the US see link. Keeps the grooves clean as i can wipe the face with the cover and just wash the covers every now and then with the golf towel. For the record it hardly slows my play at all.

Regarding the ident in the shaft, I would say no, it was indented before the round, so not changed during. As I understand it you cannot alter a club during the round or you are D/Q'd.
 
i only use headcovers for the clubs that i want to keep for ages as they improve my game (driver, 7 wood and chipper)however headcovers for irons just dont bother. anyway does it really matter if you have headcovers or not? surely it depends on how you play with that club is the issue!

Doesnt matter to me.
This question of head covers comes up all the time and has done in golf for as long as I remember and the question always comes from those who dont use them.

Every time clubs bang togeather there is a risk of indentation/scratching, if your not bothered then dont get club covers, if you are then buy some.....simple.
 
Always use headcovers. The ones that come with the Ping G10 woods are useless (as are most makes now) as they only cover the head of the club, not the vunerable shaft. I have recently purchased three decent covers with long "socks" on them to protect the graphite from bag rubs etc.
Up until recently I had always used covers for my irons too...they were graphite shafted so I purchased the longer zipped ones which protected them again from bag damage. Made sense...if the shafts in my woods were worth protecting, weren't the shafts in my irons too? I am now using steel shafted irons so haven't used the iron covers up until now, but as the clubs are forged I am already beginning to get a few nicks on them so will most probably go back to using them to preserve their looks, and therefore value.
Makes sense....my kit cost me a lot of money. Why shouldn't I protect it?
And like Murph, taking the covers on and off doesn't slow my play down. I'd gotten it down to a fine art.
Best way to answer anybody who says they are for idiots? Beat 'em 4&3 in matchplay. That normally shuts 'em up.

Woods & Putter for me.
I figure that if they provide them with the club there must be a reason!
 
If I was carrying, then the iron covers would probably be ditched, as you can stop the heads knocking together by putting an arm over the top.

In a trolley, they get bashed to bits, and look 20 years old after just one season. I want to keep my sticks for a long time, hence I look after them. They cost alot too, and are very shiny. I want to keep them that way.
