Headcovers or not

Woods and putter only for me, you can do more damage to the irons from the impact on the ground than carrying surely.

Its amazing how much damage can be caused as irons clank or chink together in a carry bag, especially if you have forged irons or forged wedges. Old putters were just as suseptable too.

Yes stones in bunkers & just under the surface can cause some deep dings, but irons in motion in a bag will be all the way around the round not just on a few holes for a shot or two.

I wouldnt dream of playing without the head covers for my driver, 3w, utility & putter, but iron covers are going a touch too far if you ask me!!

I agree with an earlier post, it shows that you want to look after your kit.

I have covers on my woods, hybrid and putter and did have some long necked zip covers for my irons but to be honest they were a pain especially in the rain and so I'll put up with the clink as I walk in return for easy access

I have covers on my woods, rescues and putter they would look a right mess without covers.

I lent an old putter (with cover) to one of the juniors at my club. He had it for 6 weeks then returned it, I took the cover off and couldn't belive what I saw, it looked like he'd used it for a hammer. He never used the cover, and where he used to throw it in his bag it got bruised and dented very badly.

Covers on everything for me. However, I remove the iron covers before play and replace them before I put the clubs back in the car. I have the long necked zipped type for the irons and they can be a bit of a faff during the round but it's 15s before play and about 45s after to put them back and keep them from banging around during transit.

I do wish that wood covers all had the long sock bit as my driver now has a nice mark on the shaft from the winter carry bag. Grr!
