Head covers for Irons

My "new" clubs aren't forged but are made from CMM or something, very soft apparently. They've got some marks but, if they're that soft, they'll probably need replacing in a few years anyway.

I agree. Just one more thing to faff with that isn't needed really.

Another user of the the clear iron headcovers, though I draw the line at using the string!

The only time they're on the clubs is to and from the course and during a round, otherwise the clubs will rust. I use them firstly because I can't stand club clatter and secondly, these bats won't be replaced for some time, so hopefully they'll look a bit better when I do come to move them on.

I had read a while back - and I think in the box that my irons came in there was an information leaflet - suggesting you shouldn't use iron covers because they encourage rust.

Any truth in this? I'm fairly sure that my Yonex irons had that in the guarantee leaflet.

Have just been custom fitted for Mizuno JPX800's with a graphite shaft recommendation. I know that some iron headcovers can give protection to the shaft as well as the head.
I am still waiting for the clubs to arrive do you think covers could be of any benefit? I don't carry and have a powakaddy cart bag with padded top and full length dividers.
