Hats off to Louis

At least Lawrie had the skill to come from ten behind on the last day, shooting 67 at Carnoustie, then birdieing 17 and 18 in the playoff is some playing.

Yeh but he had to have Jean VDV hand it to him on a plate first :)

Yeah - but that wasn't Lawrie's fault.

JVDV didn't deserve to win after his "excursion" but Lawrie's play in the play-off was superb.

And Ben Curtis just beat everyone else, same with Hamilton. Why does that make them all knobs??

Can we call him by his proper name?

Lodewicus Theodorus

Possibly the most daft name of any major winner.

So if it's not a nice British / American name it's daft. I'm sure he is very proud of his Afrikaans heritage and being named after his Grandfather.

Sorry to interrupt.but need info on Open day?

Think Shark Attack could help here,,you used to be up at THGC(seen that you've moved to Kirkie).Anyway 4 of us are thinking of going to the THGC Open(if there is one)do you have anything in your old diary???
P.S.When suits you (and Craw)to come up for the day???
How are you enjoying Kirkhill???

I was only joking about the "knob" comment. But seriously....Lawrie didn't win the Open, VDV lost it. There is a big difference. OK, his final round 67 was a great score around one of the toughest tracks the pro's will play. But his previous days 76 hardly set the world alight did it, and is not the round of a "champion".
I'll pose the same question on this thread as I did on another in case you miss it.
If Tiger Woods had been in third spot at Carnoustie due to a 67 on the final day and had wormed his way into a play off due to Van de Velde's cock up, and then won it in the play off, would it have been a deserved win? Would we look on him winning at Carnoustie through the same rose tinted glasses that some people tend to look on Lawrie's? No we wouldn't. We would say he won it by default. So why do some people continue to think that Lawrie was a worthy winner just because he's a "home" player?
Look at Cink last year. Did he win the Open or did Tom Watson lose it? A lot of people dislike Cink because of Watsons collapse on the last hole and the subsequent playoff. They say he wasn't a "worthy" winner and that he didn't deserve it.
Rose tinted glasses time.
Lawrie was gifted his Open win.

Well done Louis, but no-one put any pressure on him at all.

Casey got within one shot of him during the third round. Then Casey parred in and Oosty picked up a gear to give him some breathing space.

As soon as Oosty played his second shot to the second on Sunday, I knew he was going to walk it.

I didn't want him to win, I'd have loved it if Casey could have done it. But Casey put too much pressure on himself from the off, and didn't have the mindset right on Sunday.

Congrats to Louis, but I still don't particularly like him.

:(

As did his Grandfather according to Louis' Dad on 5 Live, don't mock his name because he comes from another country, get off his case.
