A stroll by the sea really.

Nobody looked like getting close and he just knocked it around without a care in the world.

Do you think the rest of the field were trying too hard all week and Louis just went with the flow?
Shame Rory got blown away on friday. With a par round it would have made the final scores interesting.

Yes he got an amazing draw weather wise for rounds one and two, but after that didn't put a foot wrong and played excellent golf so a deserving champion. Whether he can make the next step and back it up with another major who knows.

I get the impression that golf is becoming so open now that Tiger isn't dominating that anyone in the top 100 can win one if they put together four solid days. Could we be witnessing the end of multiple major winners? The next 5 - 10 years could be pretty interesting.

He played very well, he had some great luck with the weather over the first two days but sometimes you need the breaks.
The draw is really all just part of golf, we could go back many years and come up with "lucky" breaks they had with the draw.
Louis won by seven shots which is still a handsome margin whether if he had the luck of the draw. I think now he will a very prominent player in golf now and for many more years to come

Well done to him. He can't helpthe draw and can only play in the conditions at the time. That is the luck of the draw. Shame about McIlroy and I guess a little surprising given his background from Ireland where they know a bit about windy days on the links.

I think Tiger will win again but not until the divorce (and access to his kids) is finalised. He still looked distracted. Another strong performance from Westwood (surely his time must come) and a pity about Casey at 12 although it wasn't really going to make a difference. I'm looking forward to next year already

Why is it that I can play a tough qualifying links in the wind and score ok but some British pro's cannot?

I don't think they prepare enough for courses like St Andrews.

I wonder what Louis's preparation was?

Why are you singling out the British Pro's? They were arguably the ones who handled it best if you take Oousterbizzle out of the equation (who had little to no wind for the opening couple of rounds)...We had 3 British guys finish in the top 5 and 4 inside the top 10. Of those, Lee Westwood didn't shoot over par all week. I would argue that that is "scoring ok".

I doubt very much that Louis' victory would have been as big if he'd been drawn to tee off during the peak of the wind.

A hearty congrats to the lad though. Kept his nerve (when others wouldn't have done) and played some solid golf. Fully deserved (and this is coming from the guy who was willing him to choke on every shot he hit yesterday as I wanted to see Casey or Westwood bring it home).

Agreed I really did'nt want him to win, I thought he was the scruffiest golfer out there I didn't like the way his hands seemed to get trapped in his swing, but in the end all I can say is Well done Louis he really deserved his win.

It will be interesting to see how an injection of confidence will effect he's game. Look at Hamilton when he first started in F1. Considered as a rookie learning year after he won he’s first race he changed and become a dominant force for that season.

All of a sudden this man will stand on the tee knowing he belongs there, not wondering.

A much more deserved winner than those two knobs Curtis and Lawrie

And the other two knobs - Leonard and Hamilton!! The way he is playing, Harrington is getting close to being included in this group too :D :D

Whilst I realise Lawrie was a bit of a one-hit wonder (5 or 6 European Tour wins ain't so bad), what St Andrews would have given for even a smidgeon of the drama that unfolded with Jean VDV at Carnoustie in 99. At least Lawrie had the skill to come from ten behind on the last day, shooting 67 at Carnoustie, then birdieing 17 and 18 in the playoff is some playing.

Yeh but he had to have Jean VDV hand it to him on a plate first :)

Well done Louis, but no-one put any pressure on him at all. All of the chasing pack seemed to be too scared of attacking the pins, especially with the putter. They looked like they were all trying not to make any mistakes in the hope that Louis would, rather than 'going for it'. As Sam Torrance intimated, that tactic might work at Carnoustie or Muirfield when there is trouble on nearly every hole, but it was never going to work at St Andrews where all Louis had to do was avoid the pot bunkers with his driver - which he did admirably.

Shooting 67 round carnasty, they'll be wanting that off the calendar along with St Andrews...too easy.
