Has the BBC lost its objectivity ?

I see Nick Robinson, BBC's political editor, has said that their Brexit reporting does not need to be objective!

If they don't want to be objective let them fund themselves. While everyone is paying the licence fee they should just report the news in a factual way and let people make their own minds up.

To add to this - I read in today's Times that Nick Robinson feels that the BBC shouldn't be worried about equal representation of Leave/Remain viewpoints. We are leaving - and it is the BBCs job to present well-sourced information on the pros, cons, benefits and issues associated with leaving. There are no longer two 'sides' - there is fact, information and a spectrum of opinion.

As far as I can recall - nowhere in the article did I read that he said that the BBC does not need to be objective in it's Brexit reporting.

Despite John Reith's political and social beliefs (that were in sharp contrast to some of his personal acts) the BBC has never been a bastion of the right wing and it never will be. I worked there for several years in the 1990's and it was a fact most programme makers were Liberal or Left Wing. One could argue that creative types tend to err more towards that side politically but even going back to people like Richard Dimbleby and John Arlott (both staunch Liberals who did not mind sharing that view) and George Orwell (none of his broadcasts survive) who was even more to the left.

Not sure why anyone would think otherwise about the BBC.

• "Willing to respect or accept behaviour or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas."
  
• "Favourable to or respectful of individual rights and freedoms."

It seems to me nowadays that Liberal is a dirty word but if you take it on this definition, I see nothing wrong with it at all. I consider myself to be quite liberal by the above definition.

The Americans seem to like to make Liberal a dirty word. I hope that never happens here.

I could hardly apply those attributes to the likes of Clegg and Farron.

I would agree with that definition but Liberal in America is a political ideology that often (to me) makes very little sense. I know Liberals in America who literally believe there should not be such a thing as countries, that Planned Parenthood defunding is the biggest issue our nation faces, that to even consider disagreeing with them is wrong. This latter quality I think may have caused Mrs. Clinton to finally lose touch with the American proletariat in the heartland states of the country.

...and its Liberals rioting on American Streets because they lost the Election. It's liberals in the UK banning speakers from UK Universities because they don't approve of their views. (When I was at Uni, People with opposing views were actively given a platform...it was called debate!)

So that definition of Liberalism has been adopted by some folk who are probably more fascist then liberal.
